Chapter 47: Conspiracy
Jiang Xiaofei did not speak, but instead found himself pondering the matter of Gao Muqiu.
Seeing this, Zhou Shiqin said nothing further. She rose to her feet, announced that she was off to a meeting, and left the office.
Meanwhile, in the Genius Class, the students had already been thrown into chaos upon hearing that Gao Muqiu had been harassed by Professor Jiang. The room buzzed with furious whispers—some cursed the professor as despicable, others called him a beast in human skin, daring to lay hands on their goddess.
At that very moment, Gao Muqiu entered the classroom.
Her appearance drew every eye, and immediately, a torrent of questions erupted: “Sister Gao, did Professor Jiang really harass you?”
“Sister Gao, say something! What happened? Why would he do such a thing?”
The barrage of questions made Gao Muqiu’s face darken. She said nothing, just walked to her seat, sat down, and buried her head in her arms.
Xie Xuanxuan, seeing this, raised her voice coldly: “Enough! Can't you see Sister Gao is upset?”
The students fell silent at her command, though some continued to mutter quietly about the incident.
Xie Xuanxuan ignored the whispers. She went to Gao Muqiu, motioned for the girl beside her to move, and sat down. In a low voice, she asked, “Sister Gao, what’s really going on?”
Upon hearing her, Gao Muqiu lifted her head, speaking in a muffled tone, “What else? That Professor Jiang harassed me. I don’t want to live anymore.”
Xie Xuanxuan was incredulous. “Did he really do it?”
Gao Muqiu tidied her hair and replied, “Not quite. Luckily, Principal Zhou arrived in time, or else he would have succeeded.”
At this, Xie Xuanxuan fumed, “That Professor Jiang really is scum. I thought he was a decent man, but he’s nothing but a pervert. Don’t worry, Sister Gao, the school will definitely punish him, maybe even fire him. And if not, we’ll find a way to get back at him—maybe even cut off his…!”
Gao Muqiu frowned. “Can we really do that? He’s a Mystic-level mage.”
Xie Xuanxuan assured her, “If there’s one thing I’m good at, it’s hiring hitmen. I refuse to believe even the world’s top assassin couldn’t take him out.”
Gao Muqiu just shook her head. “Let me be for a while. I don’t want to hear anything about Professor Jiang right now.”
“Alright,” Xie Xuanxuan nodded and went back to her seat.
Once Xie Xuanxuan had left, Gao Muqiu lowered her head, sinking her consciousness into her spirit sea. At the center, she addressed the woman in black: “Why did you make me sell my body like that? You know they’ll look down on me now.”
The woman soothed her gently. “I only had your best interests in mind.”
“Really? I think you were just looking out for yourself,” Gao Muqiu retorted coldly, provoking a frown from the woman, who was clearly displeased.
Sensing she’d gone too far, Gao Muqiu lowered her voice. “But did it really have to come to that?”
The woman replied coolly, “If you hadn’t, do you think you could have escaped? Not just you—even I, the Emperor, could do nothing against him. But if my strength is restored, dealing with him would be child’s play.”
This eased some of Gao Muqiu’s resentment. She asked, “Do you know who he is?”
The woman shook her head. “I don’t.”
“Then why did he say he was after you?” Gao Muqiu pressed.
The woman pondered for a moment, her expression grave. “Perhaps he was sent by that woman.”
“Your enemy?”
“Yes.”
This answer filled Gao Muqiu with dread. If someone capable of forcing even the Ghost Emperor into such a desperate state had come for them, it meant their adversary was tremendously powerful—far beyond her ability to offend. She asked, “What should we do now?”
The woman replied, “You must gather ninety-nine virgins as quickly as possible. Only once my power is restored will we have a way to counter him. And be wary of that man—I have a feeling he will be an obstacle to my recovery.”
Gao Muqiu nodded solemnly. “Don’t worry, I know what to do.”
The woman’s voice was cool. “I hope you won’t disappoint me. Without my help, your plans for revenge will come to nothing.”
Gao Muqiu gave no answer, simply withdrawing her consciousness and standing up to leave the classroom.
Xie Xuanxuan quickly asked, “Sister Gao, where are you going?”
Gao Muqiu didn’t reply, nor did she look back.
Meanwhile, in the Academic Affairs Office, Jiang Xiaofei, having nothing better to do, had taken out his phone to read a novel.
He was thoroughly engrossed when Zhou Shiqin entered with a smile. “What are you reading that’s making you so happy?”
Jiang Xiaofei looked up and grinned. “Just a novel.”
“Oh? What kind of novel makes you smile like that?” Zhou Shiqin asked with a gentle nod.
“‘My Wife Is a Ghost Immortal.’ You haven’t read it, so you don’t know how thrilling it is. The protagonist wipes out an entire divine realm for the sake of a beauty—it’s so satisfying!”
“I’ll have to read it when I have time,” Zhou Shiqin replied with a laugh. Then she continued, “I don’t have anything else to do now. Why don’t you come to my place for dinner?”
Jiang Xiaofei didn’t answer immediately. “What about that matter?”
Zhou Shiqin smiled reassuringly. “Don’t worry, I’ve already held a meeting and suppressed the issue. You’re still Professor Jiang at this school.”
“So you can relax and come home with me now, right?”
Jiang Xiaofei nodded, a hint of playful reluctance in his voice. “I suppose I can be persuaded.”
Zhou Shiqin laughed. “Then let’s go.”
With that, she turned and left the office, Jiang Xiaofei rising to follow.
After leaving the academic building, Zhou Shiqin headed straight for the parking lot, where a minivan was parked.
Jiang Xiaofei found it curious. “Sister Zhou, what are you doing in the parking lot?”
She turned, smiling. “Driving home, of course. You didn’t think we’d walk, did you?”
Jiang Xiaofei stared at the van, stunned. “You mean this minivan is yours?”
She grinned. “That’s right. Isn’t it impressive?”
“Impressive?” Jiang Xiaofei scoffed. “Sister Zhou, as a university president, you must have money. Why drive this old thing instead of a luxury car? It doesn’t suit your status at all!”
Zhou Shiqin countered, “Do rich people always have to drive luxury cars?”
“I know you like to keep a low profile, but isn’t this a bit much? This van is ancient, no matter how well you maintain it. Why not get a new one?”
She said nothing, but after opening the door and settling into the driver’s seat, she smiled. “Get in. We’ll talk on the way.”
“Alright,” Jiang Xiaofei replied, climbing into the passenger seat and buckling his seatbelt.
Zhou Shiqin started the engine and drove out of the school grounds.
