Chapter Sixty-One: A Date with the Lady Ghost (Part One)
Dong Weike was in high spirits.
Bestowing Fu Yang with a wisp of ghostly energy and teaching him the technique “Desolate Devour” had both drained her greatly. To say it took a toll would be an understatement—one misstep, and she would have been utterly annihilated, her soul scattered to the winds!
Fortunately, Fu Yang had kept his promise and made offerings to her with three sacrificial animals.
The mysterious power of incense and prayer had restored her once again!
Yet, the dangers she had faced, the many secrets and fateful encounters along the way—these, for now, she had no intention of sharing with Fu Yang.
“Well done, little Yang. It was worth teaching you such a powerful spell, and I even protected you with ghostly energy,” Dong Weike said with a slight, playful smile, dazzling the entire room.
“When she’s not being fierce, this lady ghost is unbelievably beautiful…” Fu Yang thought.
Having not seen each other for over half a month, there was a certain warmth in their initial meeting.
But just then, Dong Weike turned her head and caught sight of Ah Huang, clad in a Taoist robe and holding a peachwood sword.
Her expression darkened instantly.
“Fu Yang… Very well, very good! You’ve brought another exorcist to hunt me down, haven’t you?”
Fu Yang was stunned, then quickly realized she must have misunderstood.
Ah Huang tried to explain. “Actually, I—ah!”
Before he could finish, a sharp pain struck his stomach, as if he’d been rammed by a mad bull. He flew through the air and landed heavily on the bed.
“Let me explain—ah!”
Dong Weike had no intention of giving this “rotten Taoist” a chance to speak. She pummeled him mercilessly, cursing between blows. “Fu Yang, you heartless wretch! When I finish beating this stinking Taoist to death, I’ll cut out your heart and lungs to see what color they are!”
“My Queen, it’s all a misunderstanding! I swear, it’s a misunderstanding!” Fu Yang was nearly in tears, feeling utterly helpless. It was as if mud had splattered onto his pants—no matter what, it just looked bad…
Ten minutes later…
Dong Weike sat with her legs crossed, scrutinizing the bruised and battered Ah Huang and the thoroughly exasperated Fu Yang.
“So you’re saying this rotten Taoist is your good friend? He just came to join the fun? You didn’t invite him to catch me?”
Fu Yang nodded like a pecking chick.
Ah Huang, nose running and eyes watery, protested, “My lady Ghost Queen… You’re really unreasonable. You didn’t even ask what’s going on before beating me up. Why are you so hot-tempered?”
As a Taoist with strength nearly on par with a talisman master, Ah Huang had sensed it from the start. Dong Weike was indeed a formidable “Ghost Queen,” but she bore no sin.
Sin is a form of resentment—every time a fierce ghost kills, their sin increases.
Taoists, with their spiritual sight, could gauge a ghost’s evil deeds. But Dong Weike bore none.
Which meant… she had never killed anyone.
But how could a fierce ghost who had never killed ascend to the rank of Ghost Queen? Ah Huang was utterly baffled.
That was also why he hadn’t fought back during his beating. He knew Dong Weike would not actually kill him. But if he fought back using Taoist arts, she might truly believe he’d come to exorcise her, and then all bets would be off…
A cornered rabbit bites back!
He had no intention of becoming the first victim of this peculiar Ghost Queen.
“Wi… Wiwang…” Ah Huang’s swollen lips made his words nearly unintelligible.
“Speak properly!” Dong Weike snapped, her brows arching sharply.
Fu Yang couldn’t help but burst out laughing. “My Queen, you’ve beaten him so badly it’s no wonder he can’t talk straight.”
Ah Huang shot Fu Yang a glare that clearly meant, “Shut up if you know what’s good for you.”
“Oh, I almost forgot.” Surprisingly, Dong Weike shrank her neck, stuck out her tongue, and flashed a girlishly cute expression.
With a graceful wave of her hand, a gentle breeze swept through the room.
Ah Huang’s injuries healed before their very eyes!
“How is that possible? That’s incredible…”
“You’ve got to be kidding me. That’s amazing.”
Both men stared in disbelief, while Dong Weike clapped her hands in a self-satisfied way, holding her chin high. “That’s nothing. I have even greater tricks you haven’t seen.”
For some reason, Fu Yang sensed that Dong Weike was far more lively this time. Compared to before, when she seemed burdened with cares, she now appeared much lighter of heart.
Back then, Fu Yang had been terrified of her, too frightened to observe her closely.
Looking back, he realized she truly had been anxious and troubled before.
Catching Dong Weike off guard, Ah Huang shot Fu Yang a meaningful look, urging him to tell their Queen the trouble they had run into.
Fu Yang glared back, signaling, “You tell her! I’d rather not get beaten.”
So the two of them exchanged glances, each refusing to speak.
Dong Weike quickly noticed. “What are you two men doing, making eyes at each other in front of me? If you’re going to flirt, at least pretend I’m not here!”
Fresh from a beating, Ah Huang immediately shrank back like a quail.
Suddenly inspired, Dong Weike declared that she hadn’t visited the world of the living in ages and wanted Fu Yang to take her shopping.
“Shopping?!”
Fu Yang nearly dropped his eyeballs in shock. He wanted to ask, “You’re a ghost—what are you going shopping for?”
Ah Huang, however, eagerly encouraged her, “Yes! Fu Yang, the Queen is so beautiful—it’s only natural she’d want to shop for clothes. What’s wrong with that? I support it wholeheartedly!”
You bastard!
You’re a Taoist, for heaven’s sake! And you’re siding with a lady ghost? Where’s your professional integrity? Has a dog eaten it?
Fu Yang glared at Ah Huang with all his might.
In truth, this was Ah Huang’s way of getting back at him.
Because of Fu Yang’s carelessness, Dong Weike had come out and immediately beaten Ah Huang to a pulp. He knew that, despite her stunning looks, Dong Weike was hot-tempered and unimaginably strong. Crossing her would only bring misfortune.
Now, with Her Majesty suddenly wanting to go shopping like a human, it was obvious to anyone with half a brain that it would lead to all sorts of absurd and unreasonable demands. Anyone accompanying her would be in for a world of trouble.
“Cough, cough. Fu Yang, you don’t know, do you? An existence as powerful as Queen Weike is barely different from the living. As long as the sun goes down, she can move about freely.”
“Exactly! As long as there’s no sunlight, it’s fine. Haha! I’m going shopping! I’m buying pretty new clothes! I’m going out for delicious food!” Dong Weike twirled around the room, delighted as a schoolgirl.
What?!
This time, it was Fu Yang’s turn to be dumbfounded.
It seemed that accompanying Dong Weike on a shopping trip was now unavoidable.
