Chapter 126: The Abandoned Cold Storage Room

With a sharp meow, it shot out a pair of pitch-black claws and collided head-on with the corpse that had lunged down at it.
The impact actually sent the corpse staggering several steps backward.
“Damn you! How dare you ambush your Uncle Bear!”
Cursing furiously, it bounced backward and scampered over to Fu Yang’s side.
Thud! Thud!
Two heavy objects fell to the floor.
It turned out that two more blood-soaked corpses had dropped from the ceiling. There were four in all. Their hollow eyes stared fixedly at Fu Yang and Lord Bear, sinister and terrifying.
Only then did Fu Yang see clearly that the blood was not on the corpses at all.
They had no skin!
Their bodies looked as though they had been completely flayed, exposing the blood-red muscle beneath. That was why they appeared to be nothing but a bloody mess.
“Damn! What kind of corpses are these? How are they so strong? And why don’t they have any skin? That’s disgusting!”
The four monstrosities were so grotesque that Fu Yang’s stomach churned.
Lord Bear chuckled. “Fu, your talent for cultivation is astonishing, but your knowledge is still a little lacking. These things are called Blood Corpses. They’re specially cultivated through wicked arts, and they’re far more powerful than ordinary walking corpses. Occasionally, they can also form naturally in ancient tombs and burial grounds steeped in yin energy. If grave robbers run into one, they’re practically guaranteed to be wiped out. Even sorcerers have a hard time dealing with these things. How could ordinary people possibly handle them?”
Blood Corpses? It was certainly an apt name.
Fu Yang frowned. “Enough talk. Two each. Let’s finish this quickly!”
With that, he formed a Taoist hand seal with his right hand and charged forward.
Roar! Roar! Roar!
The Blood Corpses let out beastlike cries and charged to meet him.
“Maoshan Ghost-Sealing Talisman!”
Having made ample preparations, Fu Yang used talismans drawn with cinnabar. Their power was far greater than anything he could produce by drawing one in midair with his bare hand.
Caught between two Blood Corpses, he sprang into the air and thrust both hands outward.
Smack! Smack!
A Ghost-Sealing Talisman landed on each corpse’s forehead. Crackling explosions rang out as sparks flashed and blue smoke billowed. The two Blood Corpses remained rooted to the spot, their entire bodies trembling while gurgling sounds rose from their throats.
They clearly wanted to attack, but could not move.

On the other side, Lord Bear had lured away the remaining two Blood Corpses. In the cramped room lined with morgue tables, it was as nimble as a fish in water.
Although it was as round as a ball, its movements were incredibly agile. It leaped from one morgue table to another while the two Blood Corpses chased it. The creatures were immensely powerful, yet they could not even touch a single hair on Lord Bear’s body.
Then, seizing his opportunity, Lord Bear suddenly circled behind one of them. His powerful right claw shot out like lightning, slashing and grabbing in one swift motion.
It actually pierced straight through the Blood Corpse’s body and tore out its heart from behind.
He tossed the heart into the air, then swung both claws together.
Swish, swish, swish!
The shriveled, bloodstained heart was shredded into countless fragments. The Blood Corpse collapsed with a thud and lay motionless on the floor.
“Fu, did you see that? Your uncle’s strength is absolutely top-notch! Hurry up and kneel before me.”
“Go to hell! You bastard! So Blood Corpses aren’t driven by yin energy and corpse energy inside their bodies—they only die when their hearts are destroyed? Why the hell didn’t you say so earlier?”
Fu Yang was not impressed in the slightest. He was furious instead.
He had clearly immobilized the two Blood Corpses with his talismans, yet he had not known how to kill them. The delay had given them enough time to break free of the Ghost-Sealing Talismans and lunge at him again.
Now that he knew their weakness lay in their hearts, however, Fu Yang gathered his strength once more.
The two Blood Corpses pounced together.
Fu Yang kicked off hard against the corner of a morgue table and launched himself into the air, flipping over their heads.
While airborne, he condensed spiritual power into the index finger of his left hand and rapidly drew a talisman in the palm of his right.
“Maoshan Golden Needle Spell!”
With a shout, he struck out with his right palm the instant he landed, driving it into the heart of one Blood Corpse from behind.
Pfft! Pfft!
Countless illusory golden needles formed from condensed spiritual power shot out from his palm at point-blank range. They pierced straight through the Blood Corpse’s heart and churned it into a mass of rotten flesh.
Bang!
The Blood Corpse crashed to the floor and was destroyed.
In less than five minutes, Fu Yang and Lord Bear had each eliminated two Blood Corpses, displaying cultivation in Taoist arts that had already reached an advanced level. Even so, Fu Yang was somewhat exhausted, beads of sweat already dotting his forehead.
“Huff, huff… These things are hard to deal with. They really are much more ferocious than ordinary walking corpses.”
Fu Yang panted as he rubbed Lord Bear’s furry head.

“Let go, you bastard! Blood may be shed and heads may be severed, but my hairstyle must never be disturbed. Haven’t you ever heard that?”
Lord Bear angrily smacked Fu Yang’s hand away and condemned his habit of constantly ruffling and kneading its fur.
“Kid, don’t celebrate too soon. The smell of blood still hasn’t faded! In fact… it’s still extremely strong!”
“What do you mean?”
“That means the overwhelming stench of blood I’m detecting probably isn’t coming entirely from the four Blood Corpses we killed. There’s something else strange and mysterious hidden in this morgue!”
Fu Yang frowned.
Four Blood Corpses were terrifying enough. Fortunately, he and Lord Bear had been the ones to sneak inside.
If they ever broke loose—or if the person behind all this deliberately released them from the morgue into the outside world—then everyone in the hospital…
He shuddered involuntarily, feeling the hairs rise on the back of his neck.
“Strike while the iron is hot. Tonight, we’re finding out exactly what the hell is in this morgue!”
Fu Yang and Lord Bear searched the area where the Blood Corpses had appeared once more. At last, they made a new discovery.
At the end of the bend in this L-shaped morgue, there was not merely a solid wall. To the far right, beside the supports holding up the ceiling beams, stood a massive iron door.
Whether it had deliberately been installed in such a concealed spot or had simply been overlooked during construction, it was impossible to notice without looking carefully.
There were also some blurred, broken fragments of writing on it:
“Former Jiangcheng Third Hospital… Mortuary refrigeration… University Hospital… 1999… discontinued…”
Although the words were disjointed, Fu Yang understood their general meaning.
As a student of Jiangcheng University, he naturally knew that this university hospital had once been the former Jiangcheng Third People’s Hospital, established before Liberation. It had later become Jiangcheng University’s affiliated hospital.
In other words, behind this massive iron door was a refrigerated morgue that had existed since before Liberation. It had continued to be used after becoming the university hospital, remaining in service until 1999, when it was abandoned and shut down.
“Wait… If it was abandoned, why wasn’t it sealed shut? And look at the position of the handle. That means the door is actually open!”
Lord Bear rose onto its toes and pointed at the thick, rusted handle, which was angled downward.
With this kind of iron door, a horizontal handle meant that it was locked. A vertical handle…
meant the door was not closed at all!
