Chapter 125: The Blood Corpse
Even through the wooden door, a chilling aura seeped outward in waves. If an ordinary person came here at night, they would likely be trembling with fear, eager to leave immediately.
"Is it locked?"
An old, heavy iron lock hung on the door. Fu Yang frowned, contemplating whether to break it down by force.
"Looks like grandpa needs to take action," said Bear Grandpa proudly, waving his furry paw. With a sharp snap, a long, slender claw shot out from his paw.
He jabbed it directly into the keyhole, digging around vigorously, his eyes flashing a fierce expression.
For some reason, Fu Yang suddenly felt a tightening in his chest...
Click!
The ancient iron lock emitted a crisp sound and sprang open.
Bear Grandpa retracted his claw and made a triumphant "Oh yeah!" gesture.
Fu Yang removed the lock, pushed open the side door of the morgue, and stepped inside.
Cold, sinister, terrifying...
All these words were fitting to describe the morgue at night.
But for a Taoist priest and a demon, this horror was not unbearable.
"Let's go in! I'm eager to see what strange things lurk in this school hospital morgue," Fu Yang said as he led Bear Grandpa inside.
Just like the last time three months ago, the morgue only had a few incandescent bulbs, casting dim light. Some lights flickered with crackling electrical noises, making the room alternately bright and dark.
Rows of mortuary tables were arranged neatly; half were empty, while the other half bore bodies shrouded in white cloth. Near the feet of each corpse hung a plastic tag with the deceased’s name, date of death, and other information.
"Damn! I'm already a powerful sorcerer, so why do I still feel uneasy inside?" Fu Yang looked around at the room full of corpses, feeling a cold chill down his spine.
The fat cat demon stood with his paws behind his back, acting like a sage as he said seriously, "Kid, you don’t get it. Your unease isn’t because you’re afraid of the corpses or potential zombies. It’s a subconscious fear of death itself. This has nothing to do with the strength of your magic but is a matter of mental cultivation and spiritual experience! Take me, for example—I’ve strolled through the underworld, fought with the judges of the dead, teased Lady Meng Po, drunk with the Black and White Impermanence, and even gambled with Ox-Head and Horse-Face..."
Bang!
Before Bear Grandpa could finish, a loud bang came from a nearby mortuary table. A heavily scarred corpse suddenly sat upright!
"Oh my god! You scared me to death!" The fat cat screamed, darting behind Fu Yang, his furry paws clutching Fu Yang’s calves as his round body trembled.
Fu Yang laughed heartily.
"Fat Cat, I really have to hand it to you. You brag so much, and then you get slapped in the face immediately, huh?"
As he spoke, he gently tapped the forehead of the sitting corpse.
The corpse’s mouth suddenly opened wide, releasing a foul, murky breath before collapsing back down motionless.
"I just sensed a lingering Yin energy trapped in this corpse’s chest. If it isn’t released, it will reanimate in a few days and become a zombie! That’s why I used Taoist magic to expel this murky Yin breath, returning it to normal. That’s what scared you into hiding behind me, then boasting about your trips to the underworld."
Bear Grandpa loosened his grip on Fu Yang’s leg and grumbled a bit, explaining he wasn’t afraid of ghosts or corpses—just startled by the sudden movement, like accidentally stepping on thin air.
Fu Yang shrugged, neither confirming nor denying the comical demon’s excuse.
Using Taoist magic, he cast a “Demonic Observation” spell to examine all the corpses in the morgue but found nothing unusual. The bodies were all normal, hollow inside with no Yin or corpse energy.
They certainly didn’t seem like the kind to suddenly transform into snarling zombies and attack without warning.
"Hmm? That’s strange. No zombies then?"
Fu Yang was puzzled.
He wondered if the culprits had already moved the zombies or dispelled the Yin energy trapped inside them, turning them back into ordinary corpses.
Deciding to explore deeper into the morgue, he figured there might be hidden passages or secrets in the basement, despite the building’s simple, single-story layout.
Sure enough, before reaching the end, Bear Grandpa suddenly became alert, sniffing hard.
“Fu kid, I smell a mix of rotting flesh and blood. Something’s wrong ahead. Get ready.”
The fat cat’s nose was surprisingly sharp, almost dog-like!
With Bear Grandpa’s warning, Fu Yang braced himself, no longer caught off guard by any sudden attacks.
Carefully advancing, he discovered that if he turned left at the far end of the morgue, there was another section of the mortuary.
In other words, the school hospital’s morgue was actually shaped like an “L.”
"Alright, maybe the strangeness is here..."
Fu Yang and Bear Grandpa reached the end and turned, eyes sharp and ready for battle.
But aside from empty morgue tables, there was no sign of ghosts or shadows.
"Wait! The blood smell is strong. It’s not coming from ahead, but from..."
Bear Grandpa suddenly shouted, “Fu kid, watch above your head!”
What?!
Fu Yang’s heart jumped.
He looked up sharply and saw a bloodied, mangled face looming over him, radiating terrifying malevolence.
It was a bloody zombie!
This ghastly creature hung upside down from the morgue ceiling, its hands no longer human, with claws nearly half a foot long—like some monstrous beast.
At this moment, it was lunging toward Fu Yang!
Luckily, thanks to Bear Grandpa’s warning, Fu Yang reacted just half a second faster...
“Shield Formation!”
Simultaneously tracing complex symbols in the air, a phantom talisman flickered into existence. A red glow shimmered, forming a shield-shaped barrier in front of Fu Yang’s hands.
Almost at the same moment, the blood-soaked corpse crashed down!
Bang!
The force of impact sent a shockwave through the air.
Fu Yang felt numbness in his palms and staggered backward several steps, finally stopping when his backside hit a mortuary table.
“That was close! Without Bear Grandpa’s warning, this thing would’ve caught me for sure. I’d be lucky to come out alive without losing skin.”
Thinking this, Fu Yang felt he should stop bullying the fat cat demon so much...
Meanwhile, as Bear Grandpa shouted the warning, he was also fending off an attack from another zombie. But his claws were no joke either. (End of first update)
