Normally, one could control and mask such spiritual energy fluctuations, but Fu Yang likely never expected Zhao Que to be a practitioner as well, so he was quite casual and made no effort to conceal it.

In reality, even if he had tried, it would have been useless. Zhao Que’s cultivation level was higher than his. Any physical contact would inevitably reveal Fu Yang’s secrets. Fu Yang, of course, could not discern Zhao Que’s true nature, so after a natural handshake, he hurriedly took Da Niu and Gou Zi to the ward to visit Old Zhao. He completely failed to notice Dr. Zhao staring at his back with an expression as if he had seen a ghost.

A storm was raging in Zhao Que’s heart. "How is this possible?! This Fu Yang... he has actually already reached the late stage of the Mage realm? He could almost attempt to receive the register and become a Taoist priest."

He could hardly believe the facts before him. He remembered clearly that just three months ago, this guy was an utterly ordinary person without a shred of magical power. He had been chased in a panic by a walking corpse that escaped the morgue while on night duty, only to tumble into an abandoned artificial lake and nearly drown after being dragged down by a "water ghost."

"Three months to go from a mortal who knew no magic to the late stage of the Mage realm? What kind of terrifying cultivation speed is this? I have never heard of such a person! This Fu Yang must be hiding a massive secret."

Zhao Que stroked his chin, his eyes deep in thought. Eventually, however, he offered a faint smile. "But this doesn't seem to have much to do with me. Never mind, no point in overthinking it. The duel with my senior brother is more important..." With that, he shoved his hands into his pockets and strolled away leisurely.

Fu Yang rushed into the operating room with Da Niu and Gou Zi. Seeing Old Zhao bandaged and lying on the operating table, his heart ached.

"Old Zhao, Old Zhao, are you alright?" Da Niu anxiously tried to approach but was stopped by a nurse who was cleaning up.

"What are you doing? Just looking is enough. The patient has just finished surgery, and we will move him to a ward. Which one of you is going to pay the medical fees first?"

"I'll go, I'll go! Da Niu, Gou Zi, you two stay with the nurse for a moment; I'm going to pay." Fu Yang hurried off. He still had fifty thousand yuan left from when he caught Master Xiong, plus the salary settled by Tang Li, so the first round of expenses would be no problem.

Just as he reached the hospital lobby, he saw a roly-poly, chubby cat wandering around, acting cute. Passing people, seeing the creature that looked remarkably like a panda, felt their gloom dissipate slightly and went over to tease it. Some even bought food to feed it.

"Fine, even though this guy is definitely just here for free food, if it can make people in a bad mood feel a bit better, that counts as a good deed." He thought to himself, and for the first time ever, he didn't "bully" Master Xiong, choosing instead to wait patiently in line to pay.

After paying, Master Xiong spotted him and dashed over, leaping into his arms.

"Why are you here? Shouldn't you be at home keeping Weike company?" Fu Yang leaned close to Master Xiong's ear, whispering so only they could hear as he carried it toward the ward.

"I made a mistake and got kicked out... Honestly, Queen Weike has a terrible temper. You better watch yourself, kid; you might end up being a victim of domestic violence every day. I saw it on the news—some guy married a woman with a bad temper, oh my god, it was a complete disaster!"

*Smack! Smack! Smack!*

Fu Yang’s signature three-hit combo reappeared, and Master Xiong’s head suffered once again.

Back in the ward, Fu Yang told Da Niu and Gou Zi, "Didn't you two just start your internships? Go to work; I don't have anything going on these next few days, so I'll look after Old Zhao." The two hesitated for a moment before leaving the ward.

With no one else around, Master Xiong crawled out of Fu Yang’s arms and dropped to the floor. It stood on its hind legs, with its front paws tucked behind its back like hands, pacing back and forth.

Time flew by. Before they knew it, night had fallen. During the day, Fu Yang had called Weike to explain the situation, saying he would stay in the ward with his roommate and wouldn't be returning home. After the nurse confirmed Old Zhao’s condition and told him not to worry—that he should wake up by tomorrow morning at the latest—Fu Yang had a sudden thought.

"Right! I've been so busy all day I forgot to check the morgue. Since it's night and no one is around, it's the perfect time to investigate."

So, taking Master Xiong along, the man and the cat left the ward. They went downstairs and strolled leisurely toward the morgue.

"Hey, Fu, are you going to the morgue to show off? Letting those corpses that chased you see your magical prowess?"

"Can you talk properly? I'm just curious about what's going on at this Jiang University Hospital and whether there are any evil cultists lurking. I want to figure out why those walking corpses appeared."

Three months had passed, and the streetlights in the hospital garden area still hadn't been fixed. The dim, yellowish light appearing only at long intervals made everything look eerie. The last time Fu Yang walked here, he was so nervous he almost wet himself, but this time he was much calmer.

"Fu, the feng shui in this hospital is bad. It looks like someone is causing trouble on purpose! Although I don't know much about arrays, there is definitely some kind of major magical formation in this godforsaken place." Master Xiong’s cat eyes glowed as it scanned in all directions.

Hm? There was someone ahead. It was Dr. Zhao!

"Fu Yang, what are you doing out so late?" Zhao Que walked toward them, smiling as he greeted them first.

"Oh, I just felt a bit stifled in the ward. I came out for a walk to get some air."

"Is this your pet cat? How cute, it looks just like a giant panda." As he spoke, he reached out to stroke Master Xiong’s head, poked its fat belly with his finger, and even pinched its ears.

Master Xiong roared internally: *I want to shove ten pounds—no, twenty pounds of catfish right up your ass!*

They chatted for a while. Looking at Fu Yang, Zhao Que said with deep meaning, "Junior, it's best not to wander around this hospital alone at night. Be careful not to accidentally fall into the water like last time."

"Don't worry, Dr. Zhao, that won't happen again."

After Zhao Que left, Fu Yang frowned, watching his retreating figure, deep in thought. Master Xiong, on the other hand, immediately started cursing.

"Damn it! That guy is no good. He touched every inch of me! We're both dudes; he's a pervert!"

"Huh? You're a dude? I hadn't noticed," Fu Yang teased.

"Screw you! Take a look at your grandpa's equipment—how majestic it is!" Master Xiong tried hard to puff out its lower half, revealing a tiny, pinkish sliver the size of a pinky finger. Fu Yang burst out laughing, saying it was way too small, and reached out to flick it.

"Meow! I'm going to bite you to death, you little bastard!"

The man and the cat bickered like this until they arrived at the entrance of the morgue.
