With a loud splash, Ye Sansi plunged straight into the water. He could not swim, but fortunately he remained calm and called for Heaven’s Wrath.

Heaven’s Wrath shot into the air. Ye Sansi seized the hilt, and the sword carried him out of the well.

Ye Sansi had swallowed quite a bit of water and coughed repeatedly. “It seems legends cannot be believed in their entirety. This well is perfectly ordinary. Not only did it fail to lead me into the Demon Realm, but it made me swallow half a well of water. What rotten luck.”

After recovering for a moment, Ye Sansi rose to his feet. Seeing that the well had no effect at all, he did not wish to waste any more time and prepared to leave.

Yet Heaven’s Wrath continued circling above the well, refusing to obey his command.

The man and the sword were connected by a meeting of minds. Since Heaven’s Wrath was behaving so strangely, Ye Sansi seemed to understand something as well. He looked up at it and asked, “Are you saying that this well truly is an entrance to the Demon Realm?”

The situation was urgent, and Ye Sansi had no time to think things through. He bent down and shouted into the well, “Tao Xiao! Tao Xiao! Where are you, Tao Xiao?”

After he had called ten times, the well truly began to change. A dazzling red light burst forth, and a fierce wind suddenly rose, sending the fallen leaves whirling through the sky.

Heaven’s Wrath understood Ye Sansi’s question. It immediately stopped circling and returned to his back, thereby acknowledging his intention.

As for how to use the well, Ye Sansi had no idea. Though he now knew that it was an entrance, there was still nothing he could do.

Ye Sansi smiled. “Tao Xiao, surely you haven’t forgotten? You were the one who said that from then on, you would serve at my command, regardless of life or death. Once words are spoken, they are like water spilled upon the ground and cannot be taken back. Don’t tell me you refuse to acknowledge them now.”

Tao Xiao patted his chest. “Whatever I, Tao Xiao, say, I will remember it after a thousand years, ten thousand years, or even ten million years. Nor will I ever regret it. But I have one condition.”

As the radiance faded, Ye Sansi finally saw a familiar face. It was Tao Xiao, the savior of the Other-Yao Realm.

Ye Sansi waved to him. Tao Xiao landed and slowly approached, his face still stern.

“Ye Sansi? Why have you come here?”

“Very well, then it’s settled! Come with me at once.”

Tao Xiao asked, “Come? Where are we going?”

“What condition? Let me hear it.”

“From now on, you may not order me to smile. Anything else, no matter how great or small, I can accomplish.”

“Then Tao Xiao truly regrets his promise? You are unwilling to save the Other-Yao Realm from its suffering?”

Tao Xiao had vanished without a trace, leaving Ye Sansi helpless. He could only sit on the rim of the well and hope that Tao Xiao would return.

Ye Sansi thought to himself: Tao Xiao should be a decent man. He values honor and keeps his word. He even saved my life. Since he agreed to help me, why would he flee?

“The Other-Yao Realm—you have been there before. It is now suffering calamity. I beg you to go and resolve it…”

Before he could finish speaking, Tao Xiao disappeared, leaving Ye Sansi staring blankly.

Sansi’s words had not been wrong. With a thunderclap, Tao Xiao landed heavily on the ground, raising a wave of force. He rose and walked toward Ye Sansi.

Tao Xiao’s return delighted Ye Sansi. He hurried forward to greet him and asked, “Where did you go? Why didn’t you say anything before leaving?”

Even Ye Sansi did not know whether this thought was truly justified or merely an attempt to comfort himself. If Tao Xiao refused to help the Other-Yao Realm, he would have no choice but to seek out the elders of Liu Family Fort. Whether their power would be enough to help remained unknown, but the secrets of the Other-Yao Realm would certainly be impossible to conceal.

Half an incense stick later, Ye Sansi was still waiting at the well, hoping Tao Xiao would appear again.

“That spell is extraordinarily powerful against those yao, but in my eyes, it is nothing worth mentioning. However…”

Ye Sansi asked, “However what?”

Tao Xiao still showed no trace of a smile. He slowly asked, “Was it not you who ordered me to go to the Other-Yao Realm? Why would you not know where I went? Did I need to announce it to you?”

When Ye Sansi heard that Tao Xiao had already visited the Other-Yao Realm, he hurriedly asked, “How is the situation? That disaster…”

But he had journeyed thousands of miles to Qingyang, searched for Zun Zhou, and finally managed to meet Tao Xiao, only to discover that he was powerless to help. Thinking of the suffering in the Other-Yao Realm, Ye Sansi let out a long sigh and wore a dejected expression.

Tao Xiao said, “Ye Sansi, what is wrong with you? I merely put it that way. It is not as though there is no solution. Though this method involving the enormous stone cannot be dispelled directly, it can be dealt with at its source.”

“I could easily shatter that enormous stone with a single strike. But its fragments would fall like meteors, wreathed in flames. Wherever they struck, not a blade of grass would grow for a hundred years, and the land would become unbearably hot. Therefore, that course of action is impossible.”

Ye Sansi considered his words carefully and found them entirely reasonable. They could not sacrifice the yao people’s livelihood for a hundred years merely to secure temporary peace. No, that would never do.

Tao Xiao’s method was the same as what the king had said: find the spellcaster. If the king’s guess was correct, the one who had unleashed this disaster was likely the ruler of the Yao Realm.

Ye Sansi said, “The spellcaster may be the king of the Yao Realm, but that is only a possibility…”

“The source? You mean…”

“Find the spellcaster and destroy him. Without the formation sustaining the spell, the hole and the enormous stone will naturally vanish. The trouble is, we do not know what sort of person the spellcaster is, nor where he is. That makes things difficult.”

…

After waiting for a while, Ye Sansi unexpectedly heard laughter and conversation in this desolate wilderness. As the voices drew nearer, he realized that their destination was most likely this Demon Well.

Tao Xiao turned around, intending to set out once more for the Yao Realm. Ye Sansi was kindhearted and did not wish to harm the innocent, so he quickly called out to him.

“I said it was only a possibility. If the Yao King truly cast this spell, then kill only him. Do not involve the other yao.”

“Understood.”

Tao Xiao left those words behind and departed once again. Ye Sansi could not see the slightest trace of his movements, and there was nothing he could do to help. For now, all he could do was wait.

Ye Sansi thought to himself: So this is a demon. How different from Tao Xiao. Their scale armor must be incredibly hard, and those twin blades must be razor-sharp. They certainly make an imposing sight—far more majestic than the great yao army of the Other-Yao Realm.

After watching them for several moments, he noticed iron chains floating behind them, with another figure caught among them. Looking closely, Ye Sansi discovered that it was Peng Xian, trapped within the chains.

Fortunately, the area around the Demon Well was covered by dense forest. Hidden among the trees, he would be difficult to spot. Ye Sansi hurriedly concealed himself and peered out to see who was approaching.

The figures engaged in conversation gradually came into view. Ye Sansi looked carefully and saw three strange-looking “beastmen” dressed in scale armor.

“I know him. If you have any sense, release him at once. Do not wait for me to take action!”

The three demon soldiers exchanged glances and laughed.

“Then come and try. If you defeat me, we will release this immortal together. If you lose, you will come with me to the Demon Realm. How does that sound?”

Ye Sansi could no longer remain hidden. He rushed out and stood before the three demon soldiers, Heaven’s Wrath in hand.

The demon soldiers halted. When they saw Ye Sansi, surprise first crossed their faces, followed by laughter.

“Oh? It seems you are not the only one trying to sneak into the Demon Realm. Hey, boy, do you know him?”

As he spoke, the demon soldier pointed toward Peng Xian.

Without further preparation, the two sides exchanged glances, and the demon soldier lunged first, striking at Ye Sansi with a fist and a kick.

Ye Sansi dodged and blocked, then followed the momentum with a sword thrust. The blade struck toward the demon soldier’s chest. But the instant it made contact, before Sansi could apply any force, the demon soldier deflected it, sending the sword veering aside.

Ye Sansi found the proposal fair. In any case, it would be one-on-one, and neither side would hold an advantage. Hoping to win, he agreed.

“Very well. I will fight you.”

The three demon soldiers lowered Peng Xian and released the iron chains. Under such circumstances, Peng Xian could have taken to the air and escaped, and no one would have been able to stop him. But he had no intention of doing so. He wanted to wait until Ye Sansi defeated the demon soldier, then leave openly and honorably.

With that, Ye Sansi retreated five paces and unleashed “Heaven and Earth Across Ten Thousand Miles.” Several sword auras, sharp as blades, burst outward in every direction. They collided with the demon soldier’s attacks and exploded in midair, raising wave after wave of force.

The demon soldier attacked, but Ye Sansi always found a way to block each strike by turning its momentum against it.

The demon soldier opened a distance of ten paces, crossed his arms before his chest, and pointed his twin blades forward. Surrounded by crimson light and blazing energy, he launched his attack in an instant. Several red blades of light shot toward Ye Sansi with terrifying force.

Ye Sansi refused to be outdone. “You have blades. So do I!”

Fortunately, golden armor had fused into Ye Sansi’s body, and the attack had not damaged his muscles, bones, or flesh.

Ye Sansi climbed to his feet and brushed the dirt from his clothes. Knowing that he would still be unable to win if the battle continued, he said, “I concede. In accordance with our agreement, I will accompany you into the Demon Realm…”

Ye Sansi attacked, but none of his blows could injure the demon soldier in the slightest. All he could do was search for a weakness amid the exchange of moves.

He failed to find one and instead began to lose ground. The demon soldier suddenly struck out with a palm. Ye Sansi failed to dodge in time, was hit, and was sent flying dozens of paces before crashing to the ground.

Peng Xian shouted, “I will go with you!”

“Brother Peng, I am fine. I am merely going to take a stroll through the Demon Realm. I can return in less than two hours. I have known the Demon Realm for a long time, so nothing will happen to me. But you are different. You are an immortal, and it may be dangerous for you. Leave Zun Zhou Mountain at once. You cannot remain here for long.”

“Hahahaha.” The demon soldier threw back his head and laughed. “Very good, very good. At least you keep your promises. I will release this immortal. You alone will accompany me into the Demon Realm. If you gain anything there, I will have something to report to my master.”

The other two demon soldiers confiscated Ye Sansi’s two swords but did not bind him, allowing him to move freely.

The demon soldier muttered something under his breath, then used the blade on his arm to cut his finger. He dripped several drops of blood into the well, and a dazzling red light immediately rose from its mouth.

Before Ye Sansi had time to marvel at the Demon Well’s strange power, he was pushed into it.

Ye Sansi had not been wrong. While on Zun Zhou Mountain, Peng Xian truly felt unwell. Fortunately, he had made thorough preparations before climbing the mountain. Though the mountain affected him, it had not disturbed his mind, and he still retained eighty percent of his strength.

Since Ye Sansi had said so, Peng Xian thought it over carefully. Ye Sansi knew the great general of the Demon Realm, so his life should not be in danger. In the end, Peng Xian could only give up, nod, and agree.

The three demon soldiers also leaped out of the well. They helped Ye Sansi to his feet and asked, “Hey, boy, are you all right?”

Ye Sansi had been shoved into the Demon Well and knew nothing about how it worked. He had assumed he would land safely, never imagining that he would be thrown out of another well. Losing his balance, he crashed heavily onto the ground.

This time he did not fall into water again. Instead, he had arrived in an entirely different world…

Ye Sansi climbed to his feet, puffed out his chest, waved his hand, and laughed.

“What could possibly be wrong? If I had not been distracted during that fight, you would never have defeated me.”

“Very well, very well,” the demon soldier said. “I heard you say that you have known the Demon Realm for a long time. What do you mean by ‘known’ it, and in what way have you known it? Why not tell me about it?”

Ye Sansi sat on the rim of the well. The three demon soldiers also sat cross-legged on the ground, facing him. They had nothing better to do and were curious to hear what he had to say.
