Chapter Twenty-Two: Let's Add Each Other on WeChat!
Bai Chenxi and Lan Tian were sitting together discussing the script when they saw the whole crew suddenly surge forward as if something noteworthy had happened. Following their gaze, they spotted Chu Muyun and his agent, Xiaowen, busily handing things out to everyone.
“Lan Tian, am I seeing things?” Bai Chenxi wondered aloud, puzzled by his unexpected appearance.
Lan Tian, mistaking her bewilderment for excitement, leaned in to boast, “Surprised? Didn’t expect this, did you? It’s been so long—go on, give him a ‘love hug’.”
Again with this—Bai Chenxi had already explained herself to Lan Tian countless times over the past few days, but he refused to believe her, insisting he’d never breathe a word of it.
“I really have nothing to do with him. If you don’t believe me, ask your senior brother,” Bai Chenxi said, exasperated. If her own words weren’t enough, surely Lan Tian would trust his senior brother.
Lan Tian was immune to her explanations. “If you won’t hug him, I will! Don’t blame me when you get jealous,” he teased.
Bai Chenxi waved at him vigorously. “Go on, go on.” She couldn’t take it anymore—let Chu Muyun deal with Lan Tian.
Chu Muyun had already noticed the two whispering together: their relationship really was good.
In the blink of an eye, Lan Tian appeared before him, giving Chu Muyun a big hug and shouting loud enough for the entire crew to hear, “Brother Chu, you finally came to visit me!”
He thought to himself: I’ve really put a lot of effort into your relationship.
Chu Muyun struggled to push Lan Tian off. “Speak properly.”
Lan Tian didn’t mind; if Brother Chu ever stopped acting like this, he’d suspect Chu Muyun had been swapped for someone else.
“Brother Chu, you’ve worked hard. Come sit and rest for a bit.” Lan Tian pointed to the seat beside Bai Chenxi, directing his gaze that way as well.
Chu Muyun looked at Bai Chenxi. As soon as their eyes met, Bai Chenxi hastily raised her script to cover her face.
Then, realizing it looked too deliberate—as if she were afraid of him—she lowered the script and pretended to flip through it.
Chu Muyun had initially intended to avoid Bai Chenxi, but seeing her series of little actions, he changed his mind and walked over to the seat Lan Tian indicated.
He’s coming over. Should I pretend not to see him, or should I leave? Chu Muyun is usually quicker than anyone to avoid me, but now he’s apparently unafraid of misunderstandings.
Bai Chenxi stared at her script but didn’t absorb a single word. The silhouette approaching grew ever closer in her peripheral vision. Before she could think of a solution, Chu Muyun had already sat down beside her.
Once he sat, it was impossible for her to leave; otherwise, tomorrow’s headlines would be full of rumors: the couple is at odds, they’ve quarreled, their relationship is over. There’s nothing the gossip accounts can’t come up with.
“What are you up to now, with so many people watching? Why did you come over?” Bai Chenxi shielded her mouth with the script, speaking toward the space in front of her.
Chu Muyun wasn’t sure why he’d come over either. Clearing his throat, he called out, “Xiaowen.”
Xiaowen hurried over to hand Chu Muyun a bag, her eyes never leaving Bai Chenxi: Oh my God, the goddess is even more beautiful in person than on camera. Despite her excitement, Xiaowen remembered she was the chief CP fan and quickly left after delivering the bag, not daring to disturb the potential romance.
Chu Muyun pushed the bag toward Bai Chenxi. “This is for you.”
“For me?” Bai Chenxi didn’t take it, a bit incredulous. Their relationship had improved since they last ate together, but then there was another scandal. She was surprised he wasn’t angry, let alone bringing her something—was he feeling all right?
“It’s from Grandma. She heard your appetite hasn’t been good lately, so she made some side dishes and asked me to bring them to you.” Chu Muyun’s mouth was full of ‘Grandma’, barely stopping short of saying she forced him to come; otherwise, he wouldn’t have bothered.
Bai Chenxi didn’t care about the details. Hearing it was from Grandma, she eagerly grabbed the bag.
“Are you sure it’s from Grandma?” Bai Chenxi looked up at Chu Muyun, her expression somewhat odd.
“What, you don’t like it?” Chu Muyun’s tone was a bit cold.
“No, it’s just—is this also from Grandma?” Bai Chenxi pulled out a gift box, pink and heart-shaped.
Chu Muyun took the bag and checked inside, confirming it was empty. His eyes landed on the heart-shaped box on the table.
“Should I open it?” Bai Chenxi’s voice brimmed with anticipation.
A box like that was obviously meant as a gift for a girlfriend. Judging by Chu Muyun’s reaction, he’d probably grabbed the wrong one. The thought made her all the more curious about its contents.
Chu Muyun nodded slightly, already guessing what had happened.
With his permission, Bai Chenxi eagerly opened the box. She was stunned—the delicate pink box held nothing but a jar of pickled vegetables, scattered with rose petals.
Chu Muyun glanced at the contents, his expression confirming his suspicions.
“Xiaowen’s your fan. I asked her to pack the bag, and she might have… put in a little too much effort.” Chu Muyun eyed the side dish nestled among the rose petals, decisively shifting all blame to Xiaowen.
“I understand, I understand,” Bai Chenxi forced a smile, nearly gritting her teeth as she said, “Quite creative.” What else could she do? A fan’s good intentions had to be accepted, tears and all.
They sat in awkward silence for a while—at least Bai Chenxi felt so. Chu Muyun, as always, only ever made others uncomfortable.
“By the way, Brother Chu, I don’t have your WeChat. Let’s add each other, so next time you can just message me, and I’ll come get whatever you bring.” Bai Chenxi tried to sound natural, hoping to ease the awkwardness.
As she prepared her phone, she looked up to find Chu Muyun staring at her coldly, brows furrowed.
Bai Chenxi knew he was annoyed again as soon as she saw him frown. He was just worried she’d pester him—if she didn’t add him, surely he wouldn’t mind.
“You didn’t accept,” she heard him say cryptically, just as she was about to withdraw her hand.
Seeing her confusion, Chu Muyun repeated, “I added you, but you didn’t accept.”
“How could that be?” Bai Chenxi said, flipping through her phone and even handing it to Chu Muyun, “Look, nothing!”
“This one.” Chu Muyun tapped and handed it back. Bai Chenxi checked—there really was a request. The profile picture was a golden retriever, the name simply a period, with no note.
“Brother, at least leave a note next time. How was I supposed to know it was you?” Bai Chenxi never added strangers, and this didn’t look like anyone she knew.
“So now you’re blaming me?”
“Wouldn’t dare. Brother Chu, let me scan your code!” Bai Chenxi shook her phone.
Chu Muyun snorted, unlocked his phone, and tossed it to Bai Chenxi. “Add it yourself.”
Bai Chenxi took the phone and did so herself. Though their interactions had been few, she’d figured him out—he was a textbook tsundere. Go along with him, and everything would be fine.
Not only did she add his WeChat, she also updated his contact note. Otherwise, he’d probably never know who she was.
