Chapter 152: Publicly Showing Affection
Is this even human? How can someone be so effortlessly charming!
Suddenly, a little avatar of herself appeared in Bai Chenxi's mind, slapping her across the face: Is this really the time for you to be infatuated?
Bai Chenxi snapped back to reality instantly. "I'm just afraid of accidentally getting cheated on behind my back."
Bai Chenxi's explanation left Chu Muyun speechless yet amused. "You're not that old, yet your imagination runs wild."
Bai Chenxi protested unconvinced, "Not wild at all. Even though we're only in a relationship on paper, to everyone else it's real. You need to be more careful when interacting with female friends, even if..."
Chu Muyun lightly flicked the tip of Bai Chenxi's nose. "Understood, my jealous girlfriend."
*Even if you want to be with someone else, remember to break up with me first.* Bai Chenxi kept these words to herself; her instinct told her that keeping silent would save her life.
"Let's go, my girlfriend!" Chu Muyun took Bai Chenxi's hand and led her out.
Seeing the two of them emerge hand in hand, Zhang Kai and Wang Ling didn't need any explanation to figure out most of what had happened.
"Are you two planning to make it official?" Zhang Kai asked, a hint of thrill in his voice at the prospect of some excitement.
Chu Muyun glanced at Bai Chenxi and said softly, "Yes. Sorry to trouble you and Sister Wang."
Upon hearing Chu Muyun's words, Zhang Kai's jaw nearly hit the floor. When had Chu Muyun ever been this polite after he caused him trouble? Indeed, being in love changes a person.
"Bai Chenxi, have you thought through what I told you yesterday?"
Bai Chenxi naturally knew what Wang Ling was referring to. Although she and Chu Muyun were in a fake relationship, outsiders didn't know that, so all the issues Wang Ling had warned her about would inevitably arise.
Bai Chenxi looked up at Chu Muyun. "Can I trust you?"
Bai Chenxi's gaze collided straight with the depths of Chu Muyun's eyes, and he responded with a firm smile. "Of course you can."
Bai Chenxi looked at Wang Ling and said with absolute certainty, "Sister Wang, I've thought it through." If she trusted Chu Muyun, then none of those things would be a problem.
Wang Ling replied briskly, "Alright, I have no objections then." With that, she grabbed Zhang Kai and pulled him toward the sofa. "Let's talk about the public announcement."
She didn't forget to instruct Chu Muyun and Bai Chenxi, "You two find a spot somewhere and think about the caption for announcing your relationship."
Anyway, right now Wang Ling had zero desire to watch these two show affection in front of her; it was suffocating!
Bai Chenxi eagerly grabbed Chu Muyun and hurried back to the guest room.
As soon as the door closed, Bai Chenxi visibly relaxed. "That scared me to death! I thought Sister Wang was going to get angry."
Chu Muyun stroked Bai Chenxi's hair and said dotingly, "What are you afraid of? Don't you have me, your newly appointed boyfriend, right here? If Sister Wang wants to vent, she has to take it out on me!"
Bai Chenxi suddenly felt as though even the air was suffused with an ambiguous fragrance.
Stiffly changing the subject, she said, "Um, why don't we think about the caption for making the relationship public instead?"
Bai Chenxi lowered her head intentionally, racking her brains. "What should we post?"
Chu Muyun followed her lead. "Whatever you want to post is fine."
This was clearly a loving remark, but in Bai Chenxi's ears, it took on a different meaning.
"Are you trying to be a hands-off boss? We haven't even gone public yet, and you're already doing this. What am I supposed to do in the future?!"
Bai Chenxi's knack for drama flared up on command, while Chu Muyun simply stood by with a smile at the corners of his mouth, watching her antics.
Bai Chenxi couldn't shake the feeling that Chu Muyun's expression meant: *I'll just quietly watch you put on a show without saying a word.*
Reining in her theatrical impulses, Bai Chenxi offered a compromise. "How about this? You come up with the first half of the sentence, and I'll write the second half. How does that sound?"
"Alright!"
Bai Chenxi looked at Chu Muyun in astonishment. Why was he suddenly so agreeable? Truly, he was a good person with a cold exterior and a warm heart!
Completely oblivious to having been handed a "good guy" card, Chu Muyun suddenly said, "I've thought of it."
Bai Chenxi was surprised. "So fast?" Did his intellect really need to flex itself so obviously?
Chu Muyun didn't answer. *Fast?* He had wanted to say these words for a very long time.
"I want to tell the whole world that I met you!"
When Chu Muyun spoke these words, his eyes seemed capable of pulling Bai Chenxi right into them—focused, earnest, and gleaming with an extraordinary radiance.
Bai Chenxi's smile widened and bloomed. "Fortunate in this remaining lifetime to have crossed paths with you."
Before Chu Muyun could harbor any other thoughts, Bai Chenxi quickly added, "How's that? I think my addition has quite a poetic vibe. Much more literary than your opening line."
Noticing that Chu Muyun's expression had turned somewhat sour, Bai Chenxi quickly amended, "Of course, your first line was full of genuine emotion, heartfelt and warm. You can tell at a glance it's nothing like those tacky ones out there."
With a tacit understanding, the two of them holed up in the room, resolutely refusing to venture outside on their own.
Since everything was settled, Bai Chenxi comfortably curled up on the bed to catch up on online gossip.
*[Is my "Slap-in-the-Face" ship finally rising to power? I'm shedding old-mother tears of excitement.]*
Bai Chenxi muttered to herself, "When did I even get a 'Slap-in-the-Face' ship? That sounds terrible!"
If given a choice, Chu Muyun would rather not have heard it. But the room was far too quiet; it was difficult *not* to hear.
"You didn't know?"
"I... was I supposed to know?" Both Chu Muyun's gaze and tone filled Bai Chenxi with an inexplicable sense of guilt.
Chu Muyun looked away and ignored her. Bai Chenxi thought about it—the problem definitely lay with this "Slap-in-the-Face" ship.
After clutching her phone and researching for a moment, Bai Chenxi looked up at Chu Muyun with a complicated expression. "I didn't expect you to follow this kind of thing."
"I don't. Xiaowen showed it to me." Chu Muyun decisively shifted the blame onto Xiaowen; following news about his own ship was definitely not something he would do.
"Oh!" Bai Chenxi acknowledged the explanation, though whether she believed it was anyone's guess. *And he claims he isn't into gossip—he's just as bad as the rest of us! To think he even monitors his own ship.*
After that, both of them fell silent. For a moment, the air grew awkwardly quiet.
Wang Ling pushed the door open directly, greeted by this rather awkward scene. Zhang Kai was still maintaining a posture as if he had tried to stop her—what if these young lovers were being all lovey-dovey and she walked in on something she shouldn't have seen?
Wang Ling paused for a fraction of a second before asking, "Should I just go ahead and issue a breakup statement?"
Before anyone else could react, Bai Chenxi cried out, "Sister Wang, what nonsense are you talking about?!"
Great, they hadn't even officially announced yet, and already she was siding with him.
Zhang Kai forced a laugh. "Muyun, Chenxi, let's all come out and discuss the next steps."
The few of them sat upright on the sofa with distinct expressions, yet all of them looked solemn.
Zhang Kai gave a light cough. "Let's not be so serious, everyone. Let's relax a little."
No one paid him any attention, save for Wang Ling, who shot him a glare and snapped, "Get to the point!"
"The point is that once it's public, mutual binding is inevitable. I want to know what level of it you two can accept."
Zhang Kai stared unblinkingly at the two of them; this concerned the main focus of his future work.
Chu Muyun spoke first, "I will fully cooperate with whatever Chenxi wants."
Chu Muyun's words earned him the first approving look from Wang Ling since she had stepped through the door.
