Chapter 139: Mr. Fox
Chu Muyun truly felt he was utterly helpless against Bai Chenxi. In the end, he would always give in to her bizarre requests.
"What kind of strange hobby is this of yours?"
Dressed in a mascot costume, Chu Muyun looked speechlessly at Bai Chenxi, who was wearing a matching one.
"This is called keeping a childlike heart." Bai Chenxi gave Chu Muyun's head a firm pat and said, "Don't worry! They won't be able to tell."
A young couple spotted the two mascots and walked over, asking, "Hello! Could we take a picture?"
Bai Chenxi nodded, and the girl pulled her boyfriend over for a photo. A moment later, she asked, "Excuse me! Could you two hug us for a picture as well?"
The girl explained, "We love you guys so much. We're your shipping fans."
Bai Chenxi felt a little awkward, having completely forgotten that these two mascots formed a popular couple. Chu Muyun, however, acted very naturally, reaching out to wrap his arm around Bai Chenxi's shoulder to pose for the camera.
During the amusement park's night session, most visitors were couples. Throughout the entire evening, couples constantly approached them, asking them to pose in all sorts of ways.
Bai Chenxi was beginning to regret choosing the fox head for Chu Muyun. The moment she had seen the fox headpiece earlier, she had casually handed it over to him.
"This suits you best, Mr. Fox!"
Chu Muyun had glanced at it, picked up the adjacent headpiece, and placed it on Bai Chenxi's head. "This suits you just as well, Miss Rabbit!"
With that, he had even patted her mascot headpiece.
And so, the two of them, topped with fox and rabbit heads, had entered the amusement park, surrounded and photographed by various couples.
Bai Chenxi felt a bit embarrassed on the inside, though it didn't show beneath the bulky mascot suit. As for Chu Muyun, he was unexpectedly patient, continuously cooperating with the picture-taking.
It just went to show that despite his cold expression every day, he was actually quite easygoing!
Seeing the crowds gradually thinning out, Bai Chenxi and Chu Muyun finally took off their headpieces and sat down on a bench to rest.
"What on earth made you think of coming to an amusement park to dress up as mascots in the middle of the night?" Chu Muyun still couldn't quite wrap his head around her train of thought.
"Well, there are fewer people at night, and it's cooler. If you came in broad daylight, you'd definitely sweat buckets."
Noticing how familiar Bai Chenxi seemed with this, Chu Muyun asked, "Do you often come here to dress up as a mascot?"
"I used to come all the time, but I stopped once I started acting. My very first job was dressing up as a mascot at an amusement park."
Bai Chenxi couldn't help drifting back into memories. "On my eighteenth birthday, I originally came to the amusement park with some friends. Looking at those mascots, we had a sudden flash of inspiration and dressed up as them for the entire day.
"That was the first money I ever earned, and I was genuinely thrilled at the time. I've kept those two hundred yuan bills ever since. Whenever I encounter something I can't figure out, I come back to dress up as a mascot.
"Seeing those story-filled pieces of pottery at Uncle Li's place today suddenly made me want to play mascot once more. This place holds my own stories, too."
"I bet that was just another one of your sudden whims. I feel sorry for your friends who had to put up with you playing dress-up for a whole day."
Chu Muyun always managed to pinpoint the exact angle for a sarcastic remark and delivered it without mercy.
Bai Chenxi was already used to Chu Muyun's sharp tongue and continued asking, "Then what were you doing when you were eighteen?"
Chu Muyun seemed somewhat reluctant to touch upon this topic, his brows furrowing unconsciously once again. "At eighteen? Probably practicing dance endlessly."
Bai Chenxi's eyes lit up instantly. "Dancing? You know how to dance? I've never seen you do it."
The moment Chu Muyun saw the look in her eyes, he knew exactly what she was thinking.
"I didn't know how, which is why I learned. And in the end, I never mastered it."
"Oh, please! With your personality, how could you possibly just give up on something you couldn't learn?"
Bai Chenxi's expression clearly conveyed: *Do you really expect me to believe that nonsense?*
"Dance for me!" Bai Chenxi shook Chu Muyun's arm. "Just dance a little! I'm sure it'll look amazing."
Following closely behind Chu Muyun, Bai Chenxi kept pestering him to show her a dance. Suddenly, Chu Muyun stopped and spun around, causing Bai Chenxi to crash right into his chest.
Just as Bai Chenxi was about to lose her balance and fall backward, Chu Muyun reached out and gently caught her by the waist. "You know me that well, do you? You knew for a fact that I could?"
This was the second time today Chu Muyun had asked that exact question. Perhaps because the night was deep and quiet, Bai Chenxi could hear the frantic pounding of her own heartbeat.
Nervously fumbling about, her hands brushed against the headpiece she was holding, and she hurriedly shoved it back onto her head.
"It's... it's getting late. Let's head back!"
Watching Bai Chenxi make a hasty retreat, the corners of Chu Muyun's lips curved upward: *Blushing—that's quite a good reaction.*
Even after they got into the car, Bai Chenxi still didn't dare look at Chu Muyun.
Chu Muyun let out a sigh and asked, "Am I really that terrifying?"
Bai Chenxi raised her head in bewilderment. "What?"
"You haven't glanced at me once since a moment ago. Am I really that scary?"
"No." Bai Chenxi wanted to explain, but she had no idea what to say.
"Alright!" Chu Muyun reached out and patted the top of her head. "I was just teasing you. Don't overthink it."
Whether it was Chu Muyun's words that worked their magic or the lethal effectiveness of the head pat, Bai Chenxi's heart calmed down instantly, and she really did stop overthinking.
Chu Muyun escorted Bai Chenxi all the way to her front door.
"We're here. Go on inside and get some rest!"
Bai Chenxi nodded. "Mm! You should hurry back and rest, too!"
Just as Bai Chenxi unlocked the door and was about to step inside, she suddenly exclaimed, "Oh no! I forgot."
Chu Muyun, who hadn't left yet, asked, "What is it?"
Looking at Chu Muyun apologetically, Bai Chenxi said, "I forgot that I was supposed to cook dinner for you today, and now it's gotten this late."
"Don't worry about it. Go get some rest! We can talk about it later."
Bai Chenxi stood there blaming herself. "We shouldn't have gone to the amusement park; it made it so late that you didn't get to eat either. Why don't you come inside, and I'll whip up something quick for you?"
Chu Muyun asked, "Are you sure you want me to come inside at this hour?"
Bai Chenxi glanced at her phone. "True, it is terribly late. By the time you finished eating, it would be even later, and the trip back would be a hassle."
Chu Muyun: *Is that really what I meant?*
"Wait here for a second." With that, Bai Chenxi dashed into her room. A moment later, she sprinted back out and shoved a large bag of instant porridge into Chu Muyun's hands.
"You just need to soak this in hot water and it's ready to drink. Take these back and have a pack." Fearing that Chu Muyun would find it too troublesome once he got back, she added specifically, "It's no trouble at all, so you have to remember to drink it."
As Bai Chenxi chattered away, Chu Muyun listened quietly. Only after she finished speaking did he reply, "Alright. I'll send you a picture when I do."
Bai Chenxi suddenly felt self-conscious. Why on earth would he send her a photo? It made it sound as though she really were his girlfriend.
"Just remember to drink it!" With that, Bai Chenxi slammed the door shut, completely forgetting to say goodbye.
Chu Muyun gazed at the items in his hands, his eyes softening considerably. He spoke softly to the closed door, "Good night!"
Then, he turned around and walked toward the room directly opposite.
