Chapter Fifty-Eight: Frenzied Construction (2)
After assigning the servants, all supervision was handed over to Mu Jiuer, as Mu Chen could no longer withstand his exhaustion.
The clanging sounds of construction echoed above the territory, but he still plunged headfirst into the rest chamber.
His body had reached its limits; if he didn’t rest soon, he feared he might drop dead in his own domain...
“Drop dead in the territory...”
Mu Chen chuckled, taking a soft mattress from his backpack and laying it atop the wooden bed.
Lying down, he felt comfort and ease, and soon slipped into sleep, his breathing slow and even.
...
He didn’t know how much time had passed before he rubbed his eyes and rose from the bed.
The negative effects on his body were gone.
Only after he stepped outside and washed his face did he finally shake off his drowsiness.
[Three hours ago, the second territory of District 9 appeared nine kilometers away.]
[One hour ago, the third territory of District 9 appeared twelve kilometers away.]
...
The information in his mind and the countdown above his head left him bewildered.
05:19:33...
“Did I sleep nearly an entire day?” he wondered, glancing around the territory.
In the distance, the servants worked with clear division of labor, buildings now standing tall.
The workshop, smithy, trading post, and other structures were all fully built, giving the territory the beginnings of a proper settlement.
But what shocked him most were the five towering, mysterious watchtowers.
[Level 1 Mysterious Watchtower]
[Quality: Tier One]
[Attack Type: Magic]
[Range: 100 meters]
[Attack Interval: 5 seconds]
[A watchtower equipped with magical attacks. Its magical damage is enough to harm any alien creature, though its true power remains debatable.]
Magical damage!
That meant even if a monster lacked a physical form, it could still be struck!
Up to now, aside from himself and Ivy, everyone else in the territory only dealt physical damage.
Now, these mysterious watchtowers gave the territory a new dimension in its defenses.
“Hm? You there! Yes, you!” Mu Chen waved to a female servant.
Not far away,
This unfamiliar servant, carrying a bundle of timber, slowly approached him.
“What’s your name, and where are you from?” Mu Chen was baffled. If he hadn’t personally arranged everything around him, he might have suspected he’d wandered into the wrong territory.
“Answering the master, my name is Number 18. Miss Mu Jiuer recruited me...”
The female servant appeared terrified, trembling under his gaze.
[A proper little servant, with not a hint of deception. At this moment, the number of servants in the territory had reached twenty. As some say, pairing men and women makes the work easier.]
Mu Chen: “???”
Originally, excluding himself and the other two, there had been fourteen servants in the territory. How had it suddenly become twenty?
He could easily guess this was Mu Jiuer’s doing, but instead of pressing her, he decided to familiarize himself with the territory first.
Letting Number 18 return to work, Mu Chen walked into the workshop not far from the base.
Simple sewing tables, a long workbench, and a small bed for resting occupied the room, though the dim lighting made the space uncomfortable.
“When will the lighting issue finally be resolved...” Mu Chen mused.
This problem had plagued him since the very beginning of the territory’s construction.
He’d considered using a diesel generator, and had even found one at the food storage base, but due to its weight, he and Ivy had to abandon the idea.
[Still troubled by a lack of lighting? Does the gloomy environment make you uncomfortable? If you’re still frustrated, open the construction menu and click ‘Territory Upgrade’ at the bottom right. The buildings you desire will appear with a Level Two territory.]
