Chapter 113: Business Every Day
At the same moment, Wei Tianyang sensed the commotion below. He quickly shouted a warning.
“Everyone, be alert—the beast is coming out!”
As soon as these words left his mouth, everyone gripped their weapons tighter, unable to restrain their fear. This was a tenth-tier Great Demon Master wolf, and even though it was injured, their tension remained palpable.
Suddenly, a streak of red light flashed amid the blazing flames.
“It’s coming!”
A black shadow charged directly out of the fire. Wei Tianyang unleashed the full force of his sword, thrusting it fiercely forward. A terrifying sword aura erupted.
Whoosh!
The others followed suit, swinging their weapons with fierce determination. In an instant, over a dozen weapons struck the demonic wolf.
Puncture after puncture, blood splattered across the group’s faces. Wei Tianyang drove half of his long sword deep into the wolf’s eye.
“It’s done!”
Seeing this, a wave of joy surged through the group.
But just as they were about to celebrate, a violent force erupted, knocking everyone back.
“What!”
Wei Tianyang leapt aside hurriedly, caught off guard by this sudden turn.
The demonic wolf let out a roar, whether from pain or rage, no one could tell.
At that moment, the group finally saw the legendary demon wolf clearly.
It was a black wolf with a single horn atop its head and a mouth full of razor-sharp teeth.
“Attack!”
Recovering their wits, the group surged forward once more.
“Die, beast!” Wei Tianyang unleashed all his strength.
“Die? You think you can?”
The wolf smiled coldly, its tone mocking.
Those words stunned everyone. Wei Tianyang felt his spirit falter, his strength waning in his grasp.
Seizing the opportunity, the wolf leapt suddenly, aiming a vicious bite at Wei Tianyang.
“No!”
Though he struggled to fend it off, the wolf’s jaws clamped down on his arm. Flesh tore apart, blood flowing freely.
Seeing this, the others snapped back to reality.
“It speaks—Demon Marquis!” a disciple of the Qing Mountain Sect exclaimed in horror.
“Demon Marquis!”
Those words revealed the terrifying truth: they were not facing a mere injured Great Demon Master, but a demonic wolf of Marquis rank.
Fear spread like wildfire.
“Run! We can’t beat it!”
Someone shouted, and without hesitation, the group turned and fled.
“Your scent is strange. I’ll eat them first,” the wolf smacked its jaws and pursued the others without looking back.
Screams echoed everywhere.
“Don’t eat me! My flesh isn’t tasty—go for Brother Zhang!”
Crack!
But the only reply was the sound of a neck breaking.
“Damn it! We can’t just wait to die here—we have to get out!” Wei Tianyang, seeing the wolf chasing the others, prepared to escape.
At that moment, he spotted Sun Xiaoya fleeing nearby and hurried after her.
Sun Xiaoya was the sole daughter of the Qing Mountain Sect’s leader; saving her might smooth their path ahead.
“Junior Sister Sun, get on my back quickly!” Wei Tianyang called.
Sun Xiaoya hesitated briefly but soon realized that relying on her own strength to flee would likely end in death. Gritting her teeth, she climbed onto Wei Tianyang’s back.
“Senior Brother, are we not going to save the others?” she asked, her voice tinged with pain as they passed a disciple whose head had been bitten off.
“We can’t save them now. At times like this, we must ensure our own safety first, so that later we can avenge our fellow disciples,” Wei Tianyang replied, breaking into a sprint.
“I understand,” Sun Xiaoya said quietly.
Behind them, the agonized screams of their senior brothers and sisters echoed intermittently, but they dared not look back.
After disposing of the other Qing Mountain Sect disciples, the demon wolf licked its lips.
“Tastes quite good—haven’t enjoyed such a feast in a long time.”
A sinister smile crept across its face.
Originally, the demon wolf had been heavily wounded, barely able to walk. It thought death was imminent and had taken refuge in a random cave, only to find a rare millennium spirit herb inside.
Seizing the chance, it swallowed the herb whole. Not only did it heal its wounds, but it also elevated its strength, reaching the Marquis rank.
“If it weren’t for my luck, today I might have truly fallen to you all,” it said, lifting its gaze toward the direction Wei Tianyang had fled.
“Think you can run away?” it laughed, a chilling sound that made one’s teeth ache.
That bite earlier was no accident—the wolf had already locked onto Wei Tianyang’s scent. Unless a heavy rain came, it would find them both.
“Now that I’m full, it’s time to get moving,” it declared, setting off in pursuit.
“Junior Sister, we will definitely escape,” Wei Tianyang comforted Sun Xiaoya, though deep inside he was trying to convince himself.
Before she could reply, a casual voice came from behind.
“I don’t think you can escape.”
The two shuddered. Sun Xiaoya turned to see a demon wolf closing in fast, soon to overtake them.
Seeing the wolf rapidly approaching, tears welled in Sun Xiaoya’s eyes.
“Senior Brother, are we going to die?”
“No, we won’t,” Wei Tianyang gritted his teeth, determined not to perish here. He scanned the surroundings for any chance of survival.
But all around was flat terrain—no place to hide or escape.
Just as despair was about to set in, he caught sight of two figures ahead.
“Help is here!” he said with renewed hope, breaking into a run toward them.
At this moment, Wei Tianyang’s only thought was to live another second—others’ lives were no concern of his.
“You can’t escape. Stop struggling, and I’ll make it quick,” the demon wolf sneered, watching Wei Tianyang run desperately.
If it weren’t already somewhat sated and planning to move before eating again, these two would have been dead long ago.
The wolf noticed the two figures ahead and couldn’t resist mocking.
“Cowardly humans, willing to sacrifice their kin just to save themselves.”
Reading Wei Tianyang’s intentions perfectly, the wolf deliberately increased its speed, eager to watch the dogs tear each other apart.
“Almost there! Just a bit faster, and I’ll be saved,” Wei Tianyang said, eyes bloodshot, pushing himself onward.
“Sir, there are two people over there, looks like they’re running for their lives,” Zhen Zhuang reported, his left arm heavily bandaged.
Although his severed arm had been reattached, he needed seven days of rest to regain full function and avoid impairing his cultivation.
“I know,” Xiao Yang replied, having long sensed the two’s presence, even the wolf’s behind them.
He adhered to the principle of “if others don’t provoke me, I won’t provoke others.”
But he quickly realized these two had drawn the demon wolf toward his position.
“Trying to drag me into this mess?” Xiao Yang smiled faintly. He realized that robbing beasts in the forest might be a profitable venture after all.
There was business every day, and the spoils from his robberies already exceeded the rewards from hard labor.
