Chapter 149 This Unit Is Currently Capable of Crossing the Abyss
Following the death of the One-Punch Prophet, the whereabouts of the Gauntlets of Infinite Might became an eternal mystery. Countless deities, demons, and later-rising arcanists coveted this sacred artifact, yet all of them returned empty-handed.
Before Grinver's passing, she had already instructed her subordinate mages to construct hundreds of mausoleums for her across every single plane, with tombs established even within the Celestial Realm and the Abyss. However, all the tombs discovered by future generations turned out to be decoys, and no news of her true resting place ever surfaced...
Because of this, she was dubbed the "Prophet of a Hundred Tombs" by posterity!
Upon hearing the news of Grinver's death, Cristophin had leaped for joy, and the entire Celestial Realm descended into jubilation. For the preceding millennia, the deities of the heavens had lived in perpetual dread, terrified that the formidable prophet might one day march upon their realm and pillage it just as she had ravaged the Abyss.
Consequently, the celestial deities secretly established a quota, pooling together a tribute of resources every hundred years to offer Grinver. Only through this appeasement did that woman keep her attention averted from the celestial domain.
During this period, within the Genesis Plane, the mages still sought to maintain their erstwhile dominance. Yet the entire realm was already riven with contradictions; many individuals dissatisfied with the mages began once more to beseech the aid of deities or demons in their quest for power.
Nevertheless, Grinver's lingering prestige endured, and neither gods nor demons dared to casually meddle in the Genesis Plane. Who could know whether she was merely faking her death? Who could tell if she had left behind some horrifying trump card? Who could be certain whether she had chosen a successor?
It was at this juncture that arcanists began to rise within the Genesis Plane. Compared to the power gained from deities and demons, arcana—founded upon the study of the laws of matter and the reactions and transformations between substances—was far more readily accepted by the inhabitants of the Genesis Plane.
Concurrently, the group of mages tasked with breeding and containing demons for Grinver had, through millennia of research and observation, summarized numerous characteristics and husbandry guidelines for various demons. They discovered that by enslaving demons, they could harness a portion of demonic power, and they also mastered various methods to enhance demons. These techniques were disseminated widely, and the new spellcasters nurtured through these methods came to be known as demon warlocks!
They were designated as demon warlocks rather than simply warlocks because the term "warlock" had existed since antiquity, predominantly referring to spellcasters who had awakened a bloodline, or had been grafted with a powerful bloodline and continuously developed their inherent lineage strength. Such spellcasters were now termed bloodline warlocks. Strictly speaking, Grinver herself was, in essence, a bloodline warlock.
Both arcanists and demon warlocks posed a threat to the mages' dominance, which, coupled with the cautious probes of the celestial deities and the abyss demons, plunged the Genesis Plane into widespread chaos following Grinver's death.
Just as the abyss demons were deliberating whether to dispatch a massive army to rescue the imprisoned demons and their Demon Emperor, the Abyss Gate suddenly slammed shut!
Following this, the geopolitical landscape of the Genesis Plane underwent a drastic upheaval. An arcanist named Morpheus Augustus embarked on a meteoric rise, leading the arcanists to overthrow the rule of the mages. Furthermore, in his conflicts with the demon warlocks, he utilized the "Super Arcana Fission Bomb" to obliterate their greatest reliance—the enslaved Demon Emperor!
He subsequently established a vast empire upon the Genesis Plane—the Arcane Empire. Over the ensuing millennia, he gradually radiated the sphere of influence of the Arcane Empire across more than three thousand planes of varying sizes that he had discovered. Many of these planes already played host to deities propagating their faiths, and coupled with the covetous gaze of the celestial pantheon toward the Genesis Continent, the antagonism between the gods and the Arcane Empire grew increasingly acute.
At that time, the abyssal demons were caught in an awkward transitional period—all three Demon Emperors had perished, and no new Emperor had yet arisen, leaving them powerless to intervene. The friction between the Arcane Empire and the deities was incessant. Eventually, localized skirmishes broke out, and the war steadily escalated...
When full-scale war erupted, Cristophin, that counterfeit deity, also harbored aspirations of reaping some benefits in the Genesis Plane, incidentally boosting his standing among the pantheon. To his astonishment, the moment he arrived on the battlefield, his attention was snared by a woman. That woman stood among the ranks of the Arcane Empire. Her eyes were utterly hollow, with countless runes faintly swirling within them.
"Oh, mother!" Cristophin shrieked internally. Before he could take a closer look, he turned tail and bolted at full sprint. Little did he know that his abnormal behavior had long since been foreseen by the Queen of the Arcane Empire. Although she had not meticulously probed why such a clownish figure had appeared on the battlefield, adhering to the principle that the nail sticking out gets hammered down, the Queen pointed directly at the spot where Cristophin was about to materialize the next second.
Then came a volley of ten thousand cannons, focusing all fire!
Cristophin had long since heard tales of the terrifying prowess of the Blind Prophet, so he harbored no illusions about surviving the strike. He promptly dove behind a newly ascended deity, using this unlucky wretch as a human shield to narrowly escape with his life.
Seeing that newly ascended deity blasted into smithereens, Cristophin could not care about his own injuries and fled into the distance at maximum velocity. Fortunately, the barrage unleashed by the Arcane Queen had ignited the powder keg of war, and the two massive armies, now locked in ferocious combat, no longer had the leisure to pay him any mind...
The injured Cristophin was no longer capable of sustaining his divine disguise, making it impossible for him to show his face before the celestial deities. With the Abyss Gate sealed, he could not return to the abyssal plane for the time being. Consequently, he resolved to find a minor plane first, heal his wounds, and emerge later to assess the state of the war.
After searching far and wide, Cristophin finally located a small plane named Azure. Figuring that his demon lord tier—comparable to a Radiant Arcanist—allowed him to run amok in this realm, he did not bother to conceal his presence upon arrival.
He uninhibitedly released his aura—a customary method for demon lords to declare their territory! He intended to conquer this plane and harvest its resources to aid in healing his wounds!
Suddenly, a beam of white light descended from the heavens. It was a pristine ray that silently pierced straight through Cristophin's head. And then, he knew nothing more!
...
As Andy absorbed a portion of Cristophin's memories, that heart slowly integrated with Andy's body. Suddenly, Andy's brows knitted tightly together, and his body began to exhibit violent rejection symptoms. The skin across his frame churned and rippled like boiling water, while tumor-like protuberances continuously bulged out from his flesh only to retract once more...
If Andy were conscious at this moment, possessing as he did the newly acquired demonic knowledge from Cristophin, he would certainly understand that a demon's heart could never be casually integrated by an ordinary person, for it was the very source of an abyssal demon's power. Unless one possessed an abyssal constitution capable of perfectly absorbing demonic power, the sole outcome of forced integration would be an explosion from within, resulting in death!
The expression on Andy's face grew increasingly agonizing, until finally, his reception of Cristophin's memories concluded. Yet, Andy did not wake up.
He was pulled deep into his own spiritual sea, entering his talent space once more—just as he had when he first awakened his soul talent.
The "Infinite Firepower" talent was currently radiating a dazzling brilliance within that space. Upon spiritual sensing, Andy discovered that one of the previously inactivated abilities of his soul talent had now been awakened!
This unit was currently capable of traversing the Abyss!
