Chapter 36: The Primeval Blood Cavern
"Next, it’s your turn—all of you must die."
A wild, manic laughter burst from Fang Yun as he charged at the other supervising disciples.
None of these overseers were a match for Fang Yun. Their cultivation was only at the Qi-Refining stage; a massacre unfolded, swift and merciless.
In less time than it takes to burn a stick of incense, every disciple present lay dead, their blood soaking the earth, not a single body left intact.
Fang Yun stared at the sea of corpses, his madness deepening.
His gaze shifted to those disciples who had already been punished.
"If death is inevitable, then let it be a death that unites you all."
Before long, not a single soul survived in the entire mine.
Before leaving, he caused the entire mine to collapse.
The deafening noise naturally alarmed the Supreme Profound Dao Sect.
Though Fang Yun had lost his mind, he knew well enough that he could not linger here.
In a flash, his figure vanished from the scene.
The next moment, he appeared at the foot of the Solitary Mountain.
Looking up at the mountain, his face twisted into a frenzy never seen before.
His laughter, demonic and chilling, echoed out: "Immortal Lord Chu Feng, and you—yes, you are a Nascent Soul Immortal Lord, but she, Chen Wanwan, is not. Why did she become your disciple, and not me? I’ll kill her. I’ll kill her!"
Fang Yun transformed into a blood-red mist and sped toward the Solitary Mountain.
The deaths of so many in the mine was no small matter.
It was the first time such a calamity had struck the Supreme Profound Dao Sect.
The news spread through the sect like wildfire.
Sect Master Xiang Yutian took the matter most seriously.
He came in person to inspect the mine.
A strange aura lingered—evil, searing, as if it would incinerate all in its path. The mine lay in ruins; not even the corpses of the dead could be found.
How could he possibly investigate such a scene?
Xiang Yutian frowned and asked the disciple beside him, "Have you been able to determine who did this?"
The disciple hesitated, "Sect Master, the culprit was utterly ruthless. Everyone in the mine was slain and buried there. We have no way of investigating."
"However, I have heard that Elder Chu Feng is adept at a divine art called ‘Manifestation of the Past.’ Perhaps he could uncover the killer’s identity?"
"Seek out Immortal Lord Chu Feng."
Xiang Yutian’s brow furrowed even tighter.
His previous actions had all but offended Immortal Lord Chu Feng.
Now, faced with trouble, he had no choice but to seek his help.
He had lost all dignity.
Utterly trampled to the ground.
No, absolutely not.
Xiang Yutian shook his head. "Enough. We’ll discuss this later."
"I’ll give you three days. You must uncover who the killer is. If you fail, you’ll answer to the sect’s laws."
Watching Xiang Yutian walk away, Zhao Shanhe could barely restrain his urge to curse.
"Three days? The entire mine has collapsed—how am I supposed to investigate? If Elder Chu Feng were willing, he could easily solve this, but the Sect Master refuses. Could the rumors be true?"
"They say the Sect Master and Elder Chu Feng are at odds. Maybe it’s true after all."
"Ah, but you’re the Sect Master, and I’m just a disciple. I have no choice. I’ll just have to swallow my pride and beg Elder Chu Feng for help."
Atop the Solitary Mountain.
The moment Fang Yun arrived, Chu Feng sensed his presence.
He also noticed something strange about Fang Yun.
The system captured the information at once.
[Detected: Child of Fate, Fang Yun, has obtained new fortune, advanced to the Foundation Establishment stage, undergone a soul mutation, and through the Evil Dragon Technique, mutated into the Sunflower True Intent, reaching the level of a Grand Completion technique.]
Truly a cockroach that refuses to die.
Worthy indeed of being the Child of Fate.
Only just suppressed and ruined, yet here he comes again, stronger than ever.
Now he appears on Solitary Mountain—does he seek revenge?
At Foundation Establishment stage? Is he mad?
"Wait, I take that back."
Sweeping out his divine sense, Chu Feng immediately found Fang Yun’s trail.
Solitary Mountain was small, yet vast in its own way. Chu Feng, with his dwindling lifespan, rarely tended to it, but its abundant spiritual energy had allowed the vegetation to flourish. It was easy to hide, hard to find.
At that moment, Fang Yun was crouched behind a massive boulder, pressing down the head of a spirit beast, his mouth locked on its neck, frantically draining its blood.
Fang Yun himself was stunned.
"How could this happen?"
Just moments before, as he was sneaking onto Solitary Mountain, ready to infiltrate Chu Feng’s residence, a scorching heat flared within him, as if his body were about to combust.
The pain was unbearable.
Just then, a spirit beast darted past.
For reasons unknown, it was as if a voice in his mind urged him: Absorb the beast’s blood, and the heat inside will subside—and you’ll grow stronger from it.
So he had done exactly that.
Though astonished, he quickly dismissed his doubts.
He could feel his power surging.
So what if it was blood-drinking? He could accept it.
Chu Feng’s heart was heavy with emotion. Fang Yun had descended to raw savagery. If the Evil Dragon Technique was a demonic path, Fang Yun had now become a true fiend.
In that case, there was no need for his continued existence.
The time had come to reap the harvest.
Just as Chu Feng prepared to act, Zhao Shanhe arrived outside the gates.
He called out respectfully, "Disciple Zhao Shanhe greets the Grand Elder. I beg for your audience."
Chu Feng frowned, snorted coldly, "You’re lucky. It seems you get to live a while longer."
Then he turned and said, "Come in."
"Thank you, Grand Elder!" Zhao Shanhe exclaimed, hurrying up the mountain.
Soon he knelt before Chu Feng, bowing deeply. "Disciple Zhao Shanhe greets the Grand Elder."
With a wave of his hand, Chu Feng said, "Speak. What brings you here?"
Zhao Shanhe immediately described the events within the mine.
"I heard, Grand Elder, that you possess the divine art Manifestation of the Past. I hoped you could investigate, to find out who destroyed the mine and slaughtered our sect’s disciples."
Chu Feng knew all too well who was responsible.
It was Fang Yun, of course.
He said directly, "Do you remember, over a month ago, that outer disciple who tried to become my apprentice?"
Zhao Shanhe replied, "You mean Fang Yun, the outer disciple—the first eunuch in our cultivation world."
"You mean to say he killed everyone in the mine and destroyed it? That’s impossible—he’s only an outer disciple!"
Chu Feng shook his head. "Nothing is impossible. You should know he is the Child of Fate. In fact, he is here now, on Solitary Mountain. You will see for yourself."
As he spoke, Chu Feng swept his divine sense once more, his expression suddenly changing.
"This is bad—he’s gone to the Blood Cavern!"
Zhao Shanhe was shocked. "Grand Elder, you mean the seal on the Blood Cavern is broken?"
The Blood Cavern—millions of years ago, a drop of Heaven’s blood, tainted and evil, fell near the present-day Supreme Profound Dao Sect. It contained immense, corrupting power. If it ever leaked, it would plunge the world into chaos, shrouding all under a bloody pall, turning everyone into bloodthirsty husks.
Just like the walking dead.
