Chapter 34: Being a Good Master
Within the Supreme Mystery Dao Sect, Chu Feng could truly be described as suffering and rejoicing in equal measure. It was through this experience that he came to understand what it really meant to be called a "demoness."
Ever since he had forcefully subdued Chen Wanwan, she had completely let go of her reservations, revealing her true demonic nature. Still smarting from her previous defeat at Chu Feng's hands, she was determined to reclaim her lost pride, refusing to accept the outcome. Yet every attempt, without exception, ended in failure.
Of course, as the Holy Maiden of the Heavenly Demon Dao Sect, Chen Wanwan knew far more than Chu Feng. Having lived for over a thousand years, she made him realize that the secrets he thought he knew about this world were but a drop in the ocean.
Most importantly, the benefits Chu Feng gained from this Heavenly Demon Holy Maiden were substantial. Days of intimate cultivation together had allowed Chen Wanwan’s injuries to heal by nearly half, thanks to the practice of the Supreme Lamentation of Heaven and Earth Yin-Yang.
"Wanwan, in the eyes of outsiders, you could be considered my disciple, couldn’t you?" One day, Chu Feng grew playful. "Come, let me hear you call me Master."
Chen Wanwan showed no sign of irritation. Instead, she smiled. "Since you’re my Master, shouldn’t you teach your disciple a few divine arts?"
At first, as the Holy Maiden of the Heavenly Demon Sect, she had looked down upon the Supreme Mystery Dao Sect's inheritance. Yet after practicing the Supreme Lamentation of Heaven and Earth Yin-Yang with Chu Feng, her view changed. The more she delved into it, the more mysterious this man before her seemed. His internal power was even greater than her own demonic arts.
If she knew that Chu Feng’s technique was merely a fragment—a scripture of three thousand verses, of which he had only acquired and practiced a thousand—she would have been even more astonished.
Chu Feng smiled. "That’s no problem. I can teach you an immortal-level divine art. However, I have a condition."
He leaned closer. "Could we perhaps open up the Three-Tolerance Policy?"
"Get lost," she snapped.
Of all the women in his life, only Shen Qianxue had ever granted Chu Feng his wish. Though Chen Wanwan was a demoness, she would never let him take her from behind. The mere suggestion infuriated her, and she glared at him fiercely.
Chu Feng could only sigh. "Fine. I have a sword technique and a palm technique. Which would you like to learn?"
He then shared with her the secrets of Opening the Gate of Heaven with a Single Sword and the Ninety-Nine Palms to Subdue the Dragon.
At once, Chen Wanwan threw her arms around him. "My love, you are so good to me."
Chu Feng smiled gently. "You are my wife now. Who else would I treat so well?"
"A mere couple of immortal-grade techniques," he said nonchalantly. In truth, he had gained far more from her.
[Congratulations, Host. Chen Wanwan’s conquest value has reached 90. You have gained 3,000,000 fortune points.]
"Hm?" Chu Feng was surprised. "Wasn’t her total fortune only about 1,200,000?"
[Host, Chen Wanwan is now a Destiny’s Chosen. Increasing her conquest value yields a tenfold critical fortune bonus. If you fully conquer a Fortune or Destiny’s Chosen woman, you will receive another reward.]
"System, you truly understand me."
"My love," Chen Wanwan suddenly said, "seeing how much you care for me, I’ll grant your wish."
"Really?" Chu Feng’s eyes lit up. "Then what are we waiting for? Let’s go inside!"
"Not now," Chen Wanwan shook her head. "Wait until tonight."
"Very well," Chu Feng agreed. "For now, let me teach you how to practice Opening the Gate of Heaven with a Single Sword."
In the end, Chen Wanwan chose the sword technique. By this time, Chu Feng had already mastered it to perfection, so teaching her was simplicity itself.
He soon discovered that Chen Wanwan was also a master of the sword. In the Heavenly Demon Holy Land—the most powerful demonic sect of the Eastern Desolation—the number of supreme divine arts was beyond counting. Chen Wanwan had cultivated the Supreme Taiyi Sword Dao, which she said had once belonged to the Taiyi Immortal Sect as their ultimate technique, the Sovereign Sword Dao.
However, after the Taiyi Immortal Sect offended the Heavenly Demon Holy Land, they were wiped out, and their techniques became part of the latter’s inheritance.
Within the various great sects, what appeared to be Daoist or Immortal sanctuaries were in fact stratified by power. Immortal Sects stood above Daoist Sects, and Holy Lands surpassed Immortal Sects. To be considered an Immortal Sect, one needed at least the foundation of a Grand Ascension cultivator; a Holy Land required the might and means of a Tribulation Sovereign.
In Chen Wanwan’s telling, eradicating a mere Taiyi Immortal Sect was as easy as crushing an ant.
The Taiyi Sword Dao was truly extraordinary, especially its final move—the Taiyi Radiant Sword—which could instantly transform into countless immortal swords to slay foes.
Before obtaining Opening the Gate of Heaven with a Single Sword, Chu Feng had cultivated the Infinite Sword Canon, a supreme sword art he had developed over nearly a millennium, reaching the peak of the Nascent Soul stage.
After acquiring Opening the Gate of Heaven with a Single Sword, he had integrated it into the Infinite Sword Canon, elevating it to a world-shaking sword art at the Divine Transformation level. Even so, Opening the Gate of Heaven with a Single Sword remained an immortal-grade divine technique—one stroke to cleave open the gates of heaven, its power immense, though its benefits to the Infinite Sword Dao were limited.
With the Taiyi Sword Dao in hand, Chu Feng did not practice it directly but gradually fused it with his own Infinite Sword Dao.
A month slipped by in the blink of an eye. Chu Feng fully stabilized his cultivation, advancing his Infinite Sword Dao to its Divine Transformation peak. Chen Wanwan made remarkable progress as well—she had mastered the basics of Opening the Gate of Heaven with a Single Sword, and though her injuries were not fully healed, they were half restored.
Meanwhile, within the mines, Fang Yun—due to his ignorance and arrogance—had become a laughingstock after being sent down. Those condemned to the mines were all disciples who had erred, relegated to endless toil.
Life in the mines was misery itself. The spiritual energy was chaotic, daylight never penetrated, and the air was thick with mineral dust, which permanently damaged the organs when inhaled. Fang Yun was forced to do the hardest, most grueling work, and suffered constant lashings from the Soul-Scourge Whip. His heart seethed with murderous rage and humiliation.
Since the first time he was beaten, Fang Yun had unconsciously begun circulating the Evil Dragon Technique, which left him feverish and restless, as if burning with fire, desperate to press himself against anyone and practice his twisted arts.
But within the mines, nearly all the disciples were men. More than once, he had nearly lost control and pounced on someone. Thankfully, Chu Feng had severed his root of desire; otherwise, he might have committed unspeakable acts.
Still, he could not avoid regular outbursts. Every day, he was either under the whip or on his way to another beating. Each lashing damaged his very soul. After a month, his spirit was battered and on the verge of collapse.
One day, after a particularly savage beating, something strange happened. The Evil Dragon Technique mutated within him: the evil thoughts vanished, the burning fire was extinguished, and a bizarre new power began to surge in his body.
