Chapter 24: The Assassin Arrives
Lin Yuan's pupils contracted, but he reacted instantly. Gathering his internal energy in his palm, he gently vibrated the timed bomb, shattering all the electronic components. The countdown froze at two seconds.
“A small timed bomb, serial number M37008, from the underground world.”
“Who is it that wants to take me down?” Lin Yuan thought of Jiang Shang, Yang Guang, and Yi Tianming.
“A killer, huh? Interesting…” The corner of Lin Yuan’s mouth lifted slightly. “I remember Master was hunted by the underground world back in the day, but after that, no one dared to accept his contract.”
Suddenly, his phone rang.
He took it out and saw that it was Lin Weiwei calling.
“Hello, Weiwei.”
“Lin Yuan, thank you for saving my grandfather.”
“No need to thank me. I didn’t lose anything.” Lin Yuan replied.
Having won Lin Shanshan, he felt he had gained rather than lost.
This stunning girl was simply perfect.
His nights would never be lonely again.
Just thinking about it made him smile.
“Well, anyway, thank you. The company is registered now. I named it Glorious Beauty. What do you think?” Lin Weiwei said.
“It’s good.” Lin Yuan had no opinion; this wasn’t his area of expertise, so it was best left to professionals.
After Lin Weiwei reported some work progress, she hung up to return to her busy schedule.
Lin Yuan called Lin Shanshan, “Are you feeling better? Come over tonight, I want to be with you.”
“You rascal, I’m on my period!” Lin Shanshan snapped angrily.
This guy, what does he think of her? Always summoning her at his whim, anyone would think she was kept by him.
“I don’t care. You’re coming over tonight, no matter what.” Lin Yuan chuckled to himself. There wasn’t only one way, after all. There were two more.
“You jerk, I won’t go!” Lin Shanshan said, hanging up immediately.
“Shanshan, who was that?” Zhou Xiaoyu walked in and asked.
“Oh, some lovesick puppy. I don’t want to deal with him.” Lin Shanshan replied, cheeks puffed with annoyance, changing Lin Yuan’s contact note to “jerk.”
Thinking about the wild night at the hotel days ago, her face flushed. She recalled taking a long bath the next morning to clean herself thoroughly.
He, relying on his medical skills, managed contraception for her, acting carefree, while she spent ages just cleaning up.
Next time, he must wear protection!
No, there won’t be a next time!
Lin Shanshan plotted to keep him at bay for a few days, and once her grandfather’s illness was cured, she would rid herself of him completely.
“Oh, let’s go shopping. I want to buy something for Tianming,” Zhou Xiaoyu said.
“Xiaoyu, haven’t you wondered? Yi Tianming is a Western doctor, but the person who saved you that day was a Chinese medicine doctor, wasn’t he?” Lin Shanshan was suspicious; she believed Lin Yuan was the one who saved Xiaoyu that day.
But she had no proof.
Besides, Yi Tianming had already admitted it.
“No, Tianming already confessed—it was him who saved me. I need to thank him properly.” Zhou Xiaoyu said with a smile.
“Then do you still care about your Wu Fan?” Lin Shanshan wondered if Xiaoyu intended to give herself to Yi Tianming.
“Of course I do! Next month, Brother Wu will hold a concert here, and I have prepared a surprise. You must help me then.”
“What surprise?”
“Hehe, I can’t tell yet. I’ll let you know when the time comes.” Zhou Xiaoyu replied mysteriously, her babyish cheeks flushing.
Lin Shanshan understood now—her feelings for Yi Tianming were pure gratitude.
Wu Fan was her true love.
This girl, claiming to be a descendant of Zhou Yu, was so foolish in matters of the heart.
Lin Shanshan sighed inwardly.
Wu Fan was nothing but an actor, a talentless pretty boy.
What was there to love about him?
…
Lin Yuan arrived on the street.
At a certain milk tea shop.
The youthful and beautiful Han Ling was busy inside.
She wore her hair in a high ponytail, a white baseball cap, a white T-shirt, a milk tea shop logo apron, and fitted dark blue jeans.
The shop was crowded, with many waiting in line outside, all hoping to catch a glimpse of Han Ling.
“Whew…” Han Ling wiped the sweat from her forehead, feeling tired.
She wished she could sit and rest a while.
“Han Ling.” Lin Yuan walked in directly.
“Lin Yuan, why are you here?” Han Ling greeted him with a sweet smile, enchanting everyone present.
Normally, the milk tea goddess was rather aloof.
When customers spoke to her, her replies were always formal.
“I want to take you shopping,” Lin Yuan said.
“Alright!” Han Ling took off her gloves, unfastened her apron, and addressed everyone, “Sorry, I have something to do. Business ends here for today.”
The admirers in line felt a pang of disappointment.
“Let’s go.” Han Ling ignored the crowd, ushered out the customers, locked the door, and took Lin Yuan’s arm.
Because her aunt wanted to save money, she hadn’t hired other staff.
Her aunt worked mornings and afternoons, leaving Han Ling to manage the rest.
So with Han Ling gone, there was no one to take her place, causing her aunt to lose quite a bit of money.
“Alright.” Seeing the murderous gazes of the admirers around them, Lin Yuan felt secretly pleased.
He wrapped his arm around Han Ling’s slender waist and strolled away.
Unbeknownst to him, in the crowd behind, a man stepped forward, adjusted his glasses, and smiled slightly.
“Lin Yuan, I want to quit my job.”
After walking a distance, Han Ling’s voice revealed her exhaustion.
She was truly worn out.
“Then quit,” Lin Yuan replied without hesitation.
“Okay, I’ll listen to you and quit!” Han Ling nodded happily, leaning gently on his shoulder with a smile.
“I’m so tired. It’s nice having you to lean on. Working is so hard—I just want to lie down and rest…”
She was grateful to have met Lin Yuan; in this unfamiliar city, he was the only person she truly trusted.
“I’ll transfer you some money,” Lin Yuan said, taking out his phone and sending her a million.
“I haven’t become your kept woman yet. Why are you transferring money?” Han Ling said, pulling out her phone. When she saw the amount, her jaw dropped.
“One zero, two zeros… My god, a million! How did you get so rich?” Han Ling exclaimed, covering her mouth in disbelief.
“Money is easy for me to come by,” Lin Yuan replied.
He wasn’t boasting; it was simply the truth.
He would prove to his senior sister that he was truly outstanding.
She would regret it!
“Lin Yuan, consider this money a loan. I want to use it for business. Is that alright?” Han Ling asked softly.
“Of course. Do whatever you want with it.” Lin Yuan said, leading her toward the park
