As soon as Lin Xiaoyan arrived at the company, she received a call from Sister Lin.

“Xiaoyan, the nurse just said your eye condition is quite serious and requires surgery. You need to come by today to complete the hospitalization procedures.”

Lin Xiaoyan felt a chill run down her spine and quickly replied, “Sister Lin, I’m fine now. Last night, I went to see the eye doctor I had before. He examined me and said there’s nothing wrong. He prescribed some medicine, and I already feel much better this morning.”

“Is that so? That’s good. Xiaoyan, you must be very careful with your eyes. Please take great care…”

“Okay, I understand, Sister Lin.”

Lin Xiaoyan forced herself to hang up the call, her hand trembling slightly. In her heart, she silently prayed that those people wouldn’t continue to target her.

However, things didn’t go as she wished. At noon after work, Sister Lin called again, saying that the ophthalmology department at Aier Hospital wanted to offer her a free examination…

Taking a deep breath, Lin Xiaoyan patiently said, “Sister Lin, my eyes are really much better now. There’s no need to go for another checkup. I had it done at the Central Hospital of Haishi City.”

Hearing this, Ailin looked up at the nurse beside her and said, “Alright, I understand. I’ll inform them.”

After hanging up, Ailin turned to the nurse in front of her. “You heard that, right? My colleague’s eyes are indeed fine now. There’s no need to trouble the doctor with her treatment.”

The nurse’s expression stiffened slightly. “Understood. We won’t disturb you then.”

After the nurse left, Ailin’s boyfriend approached quietly and said, “Later, tell your colleague to be careful and not to trust any so-called free treatments from this hospital. If there’s a problem, she should go to a regular hospital.”

Ailin looked at her boyfriend in confusion. “What do you mean?”

He shook his head slightly. “Nothing. I’ll explain after she’s discharged. It’s not convenient to talk here.”

Seeing he wouldn’t say more, she concealed her doubts and nodded, then sent a WeChat message to Lin Xiaoyan.

When Lin Xiaoyan received Ailin’s message, she was having a meal. Seeing the content, her appetite vanished immediately.

“What’s wrong?” Gao Miao, sitting beside her, noticed her pale expression and asked.

Lin Xiaoyan shook her head. “Nothing, just an advertisement message.”

“Oh.” Gao Miao lowered her head and continued eating.

Lin Xiaoyan ate without taste, her mind troubled by the matter, silently praying that the hospital would stop targeting her.

“Yes, she’s a fresh university graduate this year, working alone in Haishi City. Still a part-timer. Her classmates and friends aren’t here, and her family lives out of town…”

The speaker was none other than the chief ophthalmologist who examined Lin Xiaoyan last night, accompanied by a nurse.

“This patient’s identity is important. We’ve been pressured from above for two days. Arrange someone and find a way to obtain that girl’s blood…”

At night, Lin Xiaoyan locked her door with several locks and ordered various self-defense tools online—both large and small—to carry with her whenever she went out.

The next day, while eating breakfast, she noticed it was still early and decided to take the bus to work today!

The subway was too crowded; she feared she might “see” something.

She was just an ordinary citizen, not a superhero who could save the world. She only wanted to live a peaceful life.

The bus arrived, but Lin Xiaoyan didn’t rush on immediately. After everyone else boarded, she got on, trying to avoid contact with others.

“Excuse me, please move aside. I didn’t swipe my card just now, I need to go over…”

Lin Xiaoyan stood in the middle, looking out the window. When she heard someone approaching from behind, she glanced and shifted aside to let the person pass.

As the man reached her side, the bus suddenly braked. The man seemed unstable and crashed straight into Lin Xiaoyan.

She instinctively raised her arm to block.

“Ah!”

Suddenly, her arm felt a sharp sting. She leaned back, distancing herself from the man, noticing a disinfectant smell coming from him.

“Sorry, sorry, I didn’t steady myself and bumped into you…”

The man steadied himself and quickly apologized.

Lin Xiaoyan shook her head. “It’s okay.” Then, glancing at her arm, she saw it was bleeding from some unknown scratch.

The man had already gotten off the bus. Lin Xiaoyan frowned and looked at him once more, noticing him suddenly turn back with a mysterious expression fixed on her.

When he saw her looking, he immediately averted his gaze.

Lin Xiaoyan’s heart jumped fiercely, and goosebumps broke out on her arm.

The bus started moving again. She kept her eyes on the man outside. After the bus had gone some distance, he looked toward it and then got into a black sedan…

Lin Xiaoyan lowered her head to look at her arm, now no longer bleeding, her heart sinking to the bottom.

She slowly took out a tissue to wipe the blood off her arm.

Arriving at the company before work started, Lin Xiaoyan thought about everything on the way. She didn’t know what to do, wondering if she was just being too sensitive. Her intuition told her the man had deliberately scratched her arm.

There was only her in that spot, no one else nearby. He could have passed on the other side, but he insisted on bumping into her.

And the look the man gave her after getting off the bus made her fearful.

After some thought, she opened WeChat and searched for Doctor Yang’s page but didn’t know what to say.

After hesitating for a long time, Lin Xiaoyan closed the chat. She had already troubled Doctor Yang many times. This kind of matter couldn’t involve him.

Clenching her fists, she finally decided to trust the police and report it.

Before everyone else arrived, Lin Xiaoyan went to a secluded spot and dialed 110.

Today, Mao Hong was on the day shift. She had risen early and arrived at the police station. Having just finished her handover and sat down, her phone rang.

She glanced at the incoming number. Huh? It looked familiar!

Wondering whose familiar number it was, Mao Hong pressed the answer button. “Hello, this is the ** Police Station. How may I help you?”

Lin Xiaoyan instantly recognized the dispatcher from that night and spoke softly, “Hello, officer. I want to report a case.”

Mao Hong was stunned hearing the voice. This was the girl who reported a case the night before last—Lin Xiaoyan! Yes, that was the name!

“What happened to you?”

For some reason, Mao Hong felt an inexplicable excitement.

Lin Xiaoyan swallowed and calmly said, “I feel like someone is targeting me.”

“Hm? Have you encountered anything recently? Why would someone be targeting you?” Mao Hong inquired.
