Whoosh!

A figure emerged from behind one of the machines.

His face was deathly pale, his lips bloodless, and cold sweat poured down his forehead.

But he was holding a gun!

The soldiers reacted with astonishing speed, immediately dropping flat in every direction.

As they threw themselves to the ground, the man opened fire.

Bang, bang!

Two bullets flew out. In the midst of diving for cover, two soldiers collided with the bullets as though they had deliberately thrown themselves into the path of death.

Blood burst from their heads. Once they hit the ground, they lay motionless, clearly beyond saving.

To anticipate their movements by a split second and hit both targets showed that the man’s marksmanship had surpassed the bounds of common sense.

Boom!

At that moment, the fragmentation grenade exploded.

The blast itself was not particularly powerful. What made the grenade terrifying were the fragments inside.

Anyone struck by them could be crippled.

Lucky was standing farther back. He was not one of Robin’s targets, nor was he caught in the blast. He immediately threw himself flat on the ground.

“Oh…”

Unfortunately, his luck was not very good.

When he turned to dive for cover, he failed to notice a rock behind him.

Thud!

His head met the rock in an intimate embrace, and he passed out on the spot.

To knock himself unconscious while diving for cover—he truly was a remarkable talent.

Robin had killed two men, Lucky had knocked himself out, and two other soldiers who had been near the grenade blast had been torn to pieces in many places.

“Ah!”

The two soldiers screamed in agony after being hit.

The pain was bone-deep. They no longer even had the strength to hold their guns.

The remaining men had suffered varying degrees of injury, but they had not yet lost their ability to fight.

“Suppressive fire!”

Once the squad leader had thrown himself down, he immediately raised his submachine gun and fired toward the place where Robin had appeared.

Rat-a-tat-tat…

Flames belched from the muzzle, and bullets poured out as though they cost nothing.

In a real war, killing a single enemy often required a tremendous number of bullets. Most of the time, bullets were used for attrition and suppressive fire.

Seeing that they had truly encountered an enemy, the other soldiers hurriedly raised their submachine guns.

Rat-a-tat-tat…

A fierce curtain of fire swept toward Robin and Matthew.

“Lucky! Lucky, you idiot! Get up!” Bendick shouted for his comrade while firing.

A fragment from the grenade had also struck him, slicing open a gash on his face that burned fiercely.

Another fragment, by sheer coincidence, had struck his pocket watch.

“Find cover! Throw grenades! Buy time and wait for reinforcements!”

The squad leader knew that this enemy group was exceedingly vicious—especially with a sharpshooter among them.

There were not many of them left. As long as they could hold out, that was enough.

As two of the soldiers reached into their coats for grenades—

Whoosh!

At that very moment, a white coat suddenly flew out from Robin’s position. Several soldiers instinctively turned their guns toward it and riddled the coat with bullets.

Then a hand holding a gun extended from behind the machine.

The hand was a far smaller target than the body. Since most of the shooters had been distracted, only one man was firing in that direction—and he failed to hit it.

Bang, bang!

Two more bullets flew out, and the hand swiftly withdrew.

The squad leader watched helplessly as two of his soldiers were shot through the head and killed.

How was that possible? It couldn’t be!

The man had not even shown himself!

He had merely extended his hand and fired blindly, yet still managed to hit two men?

Was he a demon?

A twelve-man squad reduced to five?

They had not even been given time to find cover!

The grenades—yes, the grenades…

The two men who had died were the ones holding them!

Did that man have eyes in his hand? Even if he did, how could he be that accurate?

What the squad leader failed to notice was that a gun had been positioned outside Robin’s cover. He would never have imagined that the gun was Robin’s eye.

Click.

At that moment, the sound of a magazine being changed rang out.

This was not some absurd action film. A magazine could not fire forever without running dry.

Submachine guns might have large magazines, but they also had extremely high rates of fire.

Hearing the sound, cold sweat broke out across the squad leader’s forehead.

Click, click…

His own gun was out of ammunition as well!

The squad leader decisively drew his pistol.

Whoosh, whoosh…

Two more figures appeared—one from a machine somewhat closer, the other from a machine farther away.

Bang, bang, bang…

Bullets flew toward the remaining soldiers.

One man who had reloaded quickly and another who had switched to a pistol returned fire immediately.

The squad leader was the third to respond.

Bang!

He fired once. A woman who had emerged from behind a machine was struck in the shoulder, and a spray of blood blossomed in the air.

The woman grunted and hurriedly pulled herself back behind cover.

One round from the submachine gun struck the right side of the chest of the man who had appeared from behind the machine in front.

Both of them fired several shots before quickly withdrawing behind cover.

The squad leader and his remaining men were in no better shape. With two enemies firing at them, two more soldiers were hit.

The woman firing from farther away missed, but the man closer by hit one soldier in the abdomen and another in the right shoulder.

Neither wound was fatal, but the two men’s combat effectiveness was bound to be drastically reduced.

“Hiss…”

The soldier struck in the right shoulder clutched the wound, and the gun fell from his hand.

The squad leader had no time to tend to the wounded.

Three. We only have three left!

The squad leader encouraged himself inwardly. Being shot did not necessarily mean the other two had lost all hope.

Before he could finish the thought, a sudden pain struck his head.

It felt like being hit by a stun grenade—no sound, just a splitting headache.

Plop.

The squad leader collapsed limply to the ground.

The other two soldiers who still had the strength to fight also fell.

Of the survivors, one was unconscious, two were gravely wounded, and two had been shot.

Whoosh!

Robin emerged once more.

Cold sweat covered his head more heavily than before, and even the hand gripping his gun was trembling.

“Demons… They’re demons!”

After being shot in the abdomen, Bendick was already in unbearable pain. Now that he saw Robin emerge, he lost even the will to resist.

This was the importance of morale in war. Robin’s gun had frightened him out of his wits.

When Robin raised his weapon, Bendick tried to lift his own gun, but it slipped from his hand before he could bring it up.

Whether from pain or fear, no one could say.

Bang!

Robin fired.

He missed.

But Bendick’s mind went completely blank. He instinctively covered his head and collapsed as though he had been hit.

Matthew clutched his right chest with his left hand and charged out from behind cover, forcing himself to endure the pain as he carried his gun.

Bang, bang, bang…

Those who still appeared to be breathing were finished off one by one.

Matthew had been close to them to begin with. Moving targets were difficult to hit, but stationary targets that could not fight back were much easier.

Bendick, who had been raving wildly, was struck in the chest by Matthew. This time, he was not so lucky.

“They’re all dead. Move!”

Mentally exhausted, Matthew felt as though he himself were about to die.

His head hurt so badly that he almost wanted to shoot himself.

Robin clutched his abdomen. Jennifer supported him. Guinness held his shoulder, while a staff member brought up the rear. The group staggered toward Matthew.

After that battle, every one of them was wounded.

Fortunately, no one had died.

Patter, patter…

At that moment, footsteps sounded in the distance once more, coming from the direction of the soldiers.
