Chapter Nine: Ruolan Returns Home

“You just heard it—my mom said my aunt is coming back, but don’t be too sensitive about it...” Jiang Yang tried his best to soothe her emotions.
Wang Ruolan leaned against the bed, stretching out her two fair, long legs, her eyes glancing sideways at Jiang Yang. “I don’t want to make a big deal out of it, but from what I can tell, your aunt’s relationship with you isn’t ordinary...”
Jiang Yang twitched the corner of his mouth. “I just lost my memory, so I don’t really remember some things. How would I know what kind of relationship I have with her?”
Ruolan bit her lip. “The memories you lost are mostly about the women who had emotional entanglements with you, aren’t they?”
Jiang Yang gave an awkward smile. “Even if that’s true, those were before I lost my memory; they have nothing to do with who I am now. Besides, won’t you come back with me then?”
“I just don’t like your aunt who came from the U.S. Her relationship with you is unusual. I won’t let you see her!” Wang Ruolan’s tone rose a few degrees. She didn’t say whether she would come back with Jiang Yang or not.
“You haven’t even met her... Wait, do you know something?” Jiang Yang suddenly noticed something off in her words. How could anyone else think the aunt’s relationship with him was unusual?
Ruolan turned away. “How would I know? But some people are shameless—they don’t even make their relationship with my aunt clear.”
“No, you’re definitely hiding something from me.” Jiang Yang tilted his head and leaned in to look closely at her flushed face, trying to seize the opportunity to ask all the questions swirling in his mind.
Wang Ruolan met his gaze, suddenly stood up, and with her ample curves pressed like a gun against Jiang Yang’s forehead. “That’s right—I’m jealous. So what?”
Jiang Yang knew this was her way of starting to be unreasonable and pulling out all the stops. He took a small step back. “It’s probably more than just jealousy, right? You must know something?”
Ruolan grabbed his collar, her gentle eyes now wild with passion. “I’m jealous, I admit it. I’m a jealous mess. I don’t like you having anything to do with other women. What’s wrong with that?”
Without giving him a chance to answer, she hooked her arms around Jiang Yang’s neck, pressing her alluring lips onto his, and then pushed him down to the floor.
Jiang Yang let go of her lips and gently pushed her away, trying to calm himself. “Wait, can’t you finish what you wanted to say first?”
But Wang Ruolan ignored him and pressed down on him even more aggressively.
This time, it was Jiang Yang’s clothes that got torn.
This wasn’t the first time. Recently, every time Jiang Yang had some doubts about his past, she would use this kind of unreasonable method to cut off their conversation, and today was no exception.
Moreover, today Ruolan’s demands seemed even fiercer and more frenzied.
The two exhausted themselves after a two-hour battle, and Jiang Yang temporarily lost the mood to probe further.
Yet, even though they were both sprawled out in exhaustion, Wang Ruolan still remembered to get up and make Jiang Yang take those red pills.

Because if he didn’t take those pills, sometimes he would wake up in the middle of the night either having nightmares or with a dull headache.
At least in this matter, she was truly a considerate and good wife.
...
The next morning.
It was a workday, and Jiang Yang woke up early, with Ruolan following suit.
They quickly cleaned up the scattered clothes and the water stains on the floor from last night.
Ruolan went downstairs to buy some steamed buns and soy milk, and the two had breakfast together at home.
“Honey, I have something to tell you,” Ruolan said, sipping her soy milk and glancing at Jiang Yang.
Every time she saw his sunny, handsome face, she felt an overwhelming urge to have him all to herself twenty-four hours a day.
“What is it?” Jiang Yang noticed her tone was a bit different than usual.
“I have to go back home for three days to take care of some things. I’ll come back right after. Then I’ll accompany you to your hometown,” Ruolan said cautiously, watching his reaction.
Jiang Yang raised an eyebrow. “Oh, you’re going back? How about waiting till my day off the day after tomorrow? I’ll go with you. We should meet my in-laws, right?”
He really wanted to meet Ruolan’s family, after all, they were together now—it was only right.
“Maybe some other time. We got married too quickly, and my family doesn’t even know yet.” She buried her head and continued drinking her soy milk.
Jiang Yang frowned slightly, feeling a bit dissatisfied with her evasiveness, but at least she was willing to go back with him to meet his mother. That counted as progress.
He said, “Alright, it’s up to you. We’ll meet our parents together when the time is right.”
Seeing that her husband no longer pressed the matter, Ruolan smiled brightly. “You better behave while I’m gone.”
Jiang Yang reached out and scratched her cheek. “Don’t worry. With such a beautiful and gentle wife like you, I definitely won’t go after other women.”
Ruolan hummed softly and pinched his arm hard. “You better mean that.”
Of course, she didn’t want to leave this man, but she had to prepare for what was about to happen.

Having been with Ruolan for over half a month, clinging to each other every day, Jiang Yang felt a little sad about their brief separation. Before leaving, they embraced and kissed goodbye.
After leaving home and boarding the subway, Jiang Yang kept thinking about what happened yesterday. Coupled with their breakfast conversation, he found Ruolan’s behavior increasingly suspicious.
Since waking up more than half a month ago, she had never told him about her family. Now that she was going back, she still wouldn’t let him go with her to meet them.
His questions grew by the minute, but it was difficult to ask her directly. He had to find another way.
Where to start?
Right—didn’t Dr. Yang say yesterday that if he had doubts, he could come see her? She should know a lot about his situation, and seeing a psychologist shouldn’t count as getting involved with another woman, right?
Besides, her clinic was near his company. He could visit at noon.
Just as he was moving his finger to dial Yang Xiaoran’s number, his phone rang.
The caller was none other than Yang Xiaoran herself.
Jiang Yang pressed to answer, and her rich, slightly lazy, magnetic voice came through the line: “I guess you missed me?”
“Uh... to be precise, I want to see you for a psychological consultation.”
“Tsk, isn’t that just another way of saying you missed me? Looks like those lost memories are causing you quite a bit of trouble, huh?”
“Yeah, I want to talk to you. When are you free?”
“Whenever you want to see me, I’ll make time. Come to my clinic at noon, but don’t expect me to feed you today.”
Jiang Yang remembered the tiny portions they had that day, then saw the bill—it was thirteen hundred yuan. He felt a bit like he was freeloading and decided to cut back on meals with Dr. Yang in the future.
“Okay, I’ll come to your clinic at noon,” he replied.
