Chapter 62 Probing Each Other's Bottom Lines
Liang Xiaoqing wiped away her tears and returned in a huff to the forty-eighth floor at the top of Sunshine Tower, an entire skyscraper owned by Sunshine Capital.
This venture capital firm, managing nearly sixty billion in assets, was the leading enterprise in the industry.
Yet Liang Xiaoqing, on her very first day working here, had been assigned an independent office all to herself.
Her wonderful mood from before heading out this morning was now completely gone. That President Wang who had popped up out of nowhere today had actually humiliated her right in front of Jiang Yang.
Although Jiang Yang had indeed chased after her afterward and promised to leave that company, he had ended up going back in the end.
Whether it was the way that woman looked at Jiang Yang or Jiang Yang's timid attitude in front of her—daring to feel angry but not to speak out—both made her feel extremely uncomfortable.
That was certainly not the relationship between an ordinary subordinate and superior.
She pushed open the door and stormed into her private office, only to find an exceptionally beautiful woman already sitting inside. Dressed in a dark black suit skirt with fair skin and long, naturally wavy raven-black hair falling gracefully to one side, she possessed facial features as exquisite as if meticulously carved.
This young woman was none other than Su Rui, the chairwoman of the Sunshine Group and a multi-billionaire.
"Did you go out to lunch with your nephew? How come you're back so soon?" Su Rui asked with a smile, placing the documents in her hand onto the desk.
Liang Xiaoqing snatched up a few sheets of paper from the desk, crumpled them into a ball, and threw them right at Su Rui's face. "I've told you countless times not to call him my nephew."
Su Rui chuckled, raising a hand to block the paper ball. "Didn't you get over that a long time ago?"
"Just stop bringing it up no matter what!"
"Oh? Does President Liang look like she's been crying?" Su Rui asked, leaning closer to Liang Xiaoqing as if she had just made a groundbreaking discovery.
"None of your business." Liang Xiaoqing turned her face away.
"How rare. President Liang actually got bullied to the point of tears? Could it be your nephew's doing? Didn't you say he was a sweet, warm guy?"
"It wasn't him. I ran into a rival competitor." Liang Xiaoqing briefly recounted what had happened over at Xinlan Advertising.
Frowning after listening, Su Rui said, "That woman sounds formidable. With just a few casual remarks, every single sentence struck right at your weak spots."
"Su Rui, can you tone it down if you don't know how to speak properly? What do you mean by 'striking at my weak spots'?"
"Fine, fine, I won't say anymore," Su Rui surrendered with a wave of her hand, "lest you accuse me of being a well-fed person who doesn't understand the sufferings of the hungry. I just came by to see if President Liang is getting used to pretending to be a minor employee here and whether we've neglected you in any way. If you don't want to talk to me anymore, I'll take my leave."
With that, Su Rui stood up as if to depart.
"Wait," Liang Xiaoqing suddenly called out to her. "Don't you have connections everywhere in S City? Can you help me investigate this woman?"
"Oh? Investigating a woman like her is a trivial matter—you could just hire a private detective outside. I'm busy from dawn till dusk every day, and you still want me to spare people to investigate for you?"
"Oh, please. You spend more than half your day doting on your loyal puppy; how could you possibly not have this little bit of time? I want an investigation, and not just a superficial one. I want her entire past dug up thoroughly, ideally unearthing some dark history. My intuition tells me that this woman is definitely not just the general manager of an advertising company."
Su Rui nodded. "Very well, I'll help you out with this favor once more. After all, it's not like I have many friends."
"Thanks. Now leave me alone for a bit."
"It seems your nephew is truly an interesting character. With so many outstanding women revolving around him, he's a match for my man," Su Rui said, narrowing her eyes at her.
"I've told you so many times, don't call him my nephew! And stop comparing that loyal puppy of yours to my Jiang Yang!"
Meanwhile, back in Wang Ruolan's office, after Jiang Yang had departed, she picked up the unread document once more to study it carefully.
A striking name caught her eye on the paper: "Liang Xiaoqing," with the brief profile underneath reading: "General Manager and Chairwoman of Oak Fund."
This document was the result of an investigation Ruolan had commissioned trusted contacts in America to conduct, and she had only just received it.
Further down was an introduction to the Oak Fund: "Established in the 1990s by Liu Yuheng, an American of Chinese descent, it is a veteran Wall Street hedge fund with assets totaling approximately three billion US dollars."
Turning back to Liang Xiaoqing's resume: she had graduated from Donghai University's Department of Finance and was recruited four years ago by the Oak Fund to work on Wall Street in America.
This resume could only be described as somewhat magical. After just four years of work, she had managed to become the chairwoman and general manager of a hedge fund with three billion dollars in assets.
One had to realize that working on Wall Street for four years would at best make someone a senior trader, and even then, they would be considered the elite among elites.
Furthermore, Wall Street financial firms rarely recruited graduates from Dragon Country to work in America, making this situation highly peculiar.
There was only one possible explanation: someone had specifically recruited Liang Xiaoqing from Dragon Country to work in America, and ultimately handed over the company's shares and controlling stake to her as well.
For such a thing to happen, there could only be one reason—Liang Xiaoqing was the heir to the fund's chairman.
For reasons unknown, Liang Xiaoqing had inherited this massive fortune without Jiang Yang's knowledge. And even now, she was still keeping it a secret.
Ruolan knew that Liang Xiaoqing and Jiang Yang shared no blood relation, having been adopted at a very young age; the true details of her background were likely known only to Jiang Yang's grandfather.
Ruolan's finger tapped against the digit thirty billion. Three billion US dollars was equivalent to over twenty billion RMB; even if she only held a thirty percent stake, that amounted to nearly one billion US dollars.
Such a sum made her a bona fide multi-millionaire even in America. With Liang Xiaoqing being so wealthy, Jiang Yang's family had previously been buried in debt and facing enormous hardships.
Jiang Yang had even been reduced to working as a male hostess in a bar to make money—to put it bluntly, he had almost resorted to selling himself.
Yet Liang Xiaoqing had been raised by the Jiang family for so many years. Even if she and Jiang Yang weren't romantic partners, the nurturing grace of the Jiang family certainly existed.
At the time, she hadn't even brought out money from America to help, and now she had the nerve to come back disguised as a humble white-collar worker to pursue Jiang Yang. What on earth were her true intentions?
Ruolan had previously felt that Jiang Yang's seemingly pure young aunt was somewhat abnormal, and an investigation in America had indeed proven her suspicions correct. She was hiding such a massive secret behind her back!
After thoroughly reading the document, Ruolan placed the papers face down on the desk. Taking a deep breath, she murmured to herself, "Hubby, oh hubby, any single one of the women around you is far from simple. Compared to Liang Xiaoqing, however, Su Muyun, the big boss of the underworld casino, actually seems like the more innocent one. No matter what they are like, in the end you will still belong to me alone, and no one will ever snatch you away from my side."
