Chapter Forty-Seven: Visiting Su Muyun
Returning to his desk, Jiang Yang simply packed up his personal belongings.
The news of his sudden promotion to replace Supervisor Zhao had apparently spread to everyone. The way people looked at him had subtly changed.
There was envy, jealousy, and above all, suspicion.
Even Chen Hao, his good buddy, sat nearby in silence.
After all, no matter how one looked at it, the whole affair seemed somewhat like Jiang Yang playing dirty behind the scenes, elbowing Supervisor Zhao out and stepping directly into his position.
He used to be quite popular in this department, frequently mingling with everyone. But now, none of the colleagues spoke to him, giving him a distinct sense of isolation.
Silently finishing packing, he walked over to the design department supervisor's office and set his things down.
Opening the computer, he found Supervisor Zhao's handover documents right on the desktop. These files appeared to have been completed as early as yesterday, which meant Zhao had received the notice long ago. Ironically, Jiang Yang was the last person to know.
Regardless of how this unexpected stroke of fortune had come about, now that he was the department supervisor, he intended to do his job well.
Having spent over a year in the design department, he was quite familiar with its operations, client requirements, and general workflow.
Therefore, taking over the supervisor's duties was not overly difficult for him; he only needed to review the ongoing orders currently handled by each designer in the company.
After reading the materials for a while, his phone rang, displaying an unfamiliar number.
He frowned slightly. Whenever he saw an unknown number nowadays, he felt a mild headache coming on, always suspecting some inexplicable woman was tracking him down.
Answering the call, a rough man's voice came through: "Hello, is this Jiang Yang?"
Jiang Yang let out a soft sigh of relief. "It is. May I ask who you are?"
"I am Wei Jiahao. We met at Melody Harbor a few days ago."
Jiang Yang searched his memory. The voice sounded familiar, and he tentatively asked, "You are... Sister Muyun's subordinate, the one with the crew cut?"
"That's right, it's me."
"Does Sister Muyun want something with me?" Jiang Yang's mind instantly conjured up the image of that seductive woman, Su Muyun, recalling vividly how she had torn his clothes that night.
"Hmph, you roll 'Sister Muyun' off your tongue quite naturally now."
Jiang Yang's old face flushed red. "Let's talk about why she's looking for me first."
"To be precise, I am the one looking for you."
Jiang Yang asked in puzzlement, "What business could you possibly have with me?"
"Sister Su has fallen ill. I hope you can go check on her."
"Wasn't she doing fine when I went to the bar a few days ago? Why did she suddenly fall sick?"
"A stomach ailment. She just came back from the hospital."
Jiang Yang was startled, leaping straight up from his chair. "She was perfectly fine, how did she end up with a stomach ailment?"
Wei Jiahao let out a cold snort. "Now you know how to panic? Her stomach trouble is because she drank too much alcohol these past few days. Have you got any idea who she got sick for?"
Jiang Yang was left speechless. He only just realized that upon hearing the news of her illness, he had genuinely panicked. Could it be that he cared about her this much after all?
Beyond romantic feelings, there seemed to be something else that made him care about Su Muyun, though regrettably, he still could not remember what it was.
Wei Jiahao continued, "She just came back from the hospital today, and the doctor said she needs to rest for a few days. But she can't keep anything down, and her condition isn't very good. She's staying in the city right now, and I'll text you the address. Whether you come to see her or continue playing amnesiac is entirely up to you."
With that, he hung up directly and texted an address.
Looking at the address, as if seeing Su Muyun lying in bed, Jiang Yang felt a tightness in his chest and made an unhesitating decision to go see her.
...
At 7:00 PM.
The address provided by Wei Jiahao was an exclusive villa residential area on the outskirts of the city. Anyone living here was exceptionally wealthy or influential—in short, people belonging to a completely different social stratum from Jiang Yang.
Arriving at the villa where Su Muyun lived, Jiang Yang immediately spotted Wei Jiahao standing guard at the entrance.
Seeing him arrive, Wei Jiahao still didn't offer a pleasant expression. "At least you have a conscience, kid. It wasn't in vain that Sister Su treated you so well."
Hesitating for a moment, Jiang Yang asked, "Brother Hao, I remember when you first met me, you also said Sister Su treated me very well. Exactly how well did she treat me? Can you tell me?"
"She..." Wei Jiahao trailed off, hesitating. He remained silent for a few seconds before continuing, "That debt your family owed, wasn't it paid off by her? Over six hundred thousand. Isn't that treating you well?"
Jiang Yang shuddered from head to toe. No wonder he always felt something was amiss in his lost memories; so that was how it was!
What he said certainly couldn't be false, and these transactions should easily be verifiable through bank records.
When he thought about it, he was just an ordinary person. No matter how many part-time jobs he had worked in the past, how could he possibly have scraped together six hundred thousand in such a short time to clear his debts? It turned out Su Muyun had helped him pay them off!
While she disdained bringing it up, he had no business forgetting it whatsoever.
"I'm sorry, I actually forgot all about these things. I'm truly unforgivable." Jiang Yang berated himself inwardly.
"Knowing you're unforgivable is a start. Get inside and figure out a way to make Sister Su eat something." Seeing how easily he had glossed over the matter, Wei Jiahao secretly breathed a sigh of relief.
Six hundred thousand was a massive sum to Jiang Yang that relieved his family's urgent crisis, but to a high-roller like Su Muyun, it was merely a slightly larger tip.
The ways she had truly been good to Jiang Yang went far beyond this, but that was something that absolutely could not be said—at least, not by his mouth.
Jiang Yang nodded. "Yeah, I will."
This was a two-story villa. The living room on the first floor was vast, with two men in black jackets pacing back and forth inside, who were presumably also her subordinates.
A middle-aged woman in white clothes was coming down from the second floor, carrying a tray with a bowl of plain white congee. She appeared to be the housekeeper attending to Su Muyun's daily needs.
As soon as she saw Jiang Yang, she said, "You must be Mr. Jiang, right?"
"I am. Do we know each other?" Jiang Yang hadn't expected even the housekeeper here to know him.
"Miss Su has been muttering your name ever since she came back from the hospital. I figured it might be you."
Jiang Yang's heart sank, and he glanced upstairs. "How is Miss Su?"
"She's resting in bed right now. I cooked some plain congee, but she can't eat anything. The doctor said the next few days will be quite difficult, but she still needs to eat at least a little. Would you mind taking this up and giving it a try?" The housekeeper handed the tray to Jiang Yang.
Taking the tray, Jiang Yang said, "Alright, I'll go up and try."
Carrying the tray, he went up to the second floor and found the door closed.
He knocked gently, and Su Muyun's impatient yet weak voice came from inside: "I already told you, I'm not eating anything, take it away!"
Jiang Yang cleared his throat and said, "It's me."
