Lu Chen looked at Lin Yang with suspicion and asked, “Have you heard my story?”
Naturally, Lin Yang shook his head but maintained a sincere expression.
“No, but your face is full of stories.”
Those around them couldn’t help but twitch their lips. What kind of stories could a child no older than sixteen possibly have on his face?
Lin Hongye felt the gazes around her and blushed slightly.
“Master, perhaps we should talk more when we return to Chiyang Peak.”
Lin Yang snapped back to reality, stood up, cleared his throat twice, and nodded.
“Alright, let’s go.”
At that moment, a streak of light fell, and Zhang Xianfeng hurried out. He then turned to Lin Hongye with concern.
“Hongye, are you alright? You didn’t get hurt, did you?”
After speaking, he anxiously probed Lin Hongye’s entire body with his divine sense. Upon confirming she had only sustained minor injuries, he visibly relaxed.
“That’s good, that’s good.”
“Whether she managed to slay the great demon isn’t important. The crucial thing is that she’s safe. Fortunately, she’s back.”
Seeing Zhang Xianfeng unaware of the full situation, one of the disciples quietly reminded him.
“Sect Leader, Lin Hongye actually slew that Nascent Soul great demon. Its head is currently in the mission hall.”
Hearing this, Zhang Xianfeng’s face stiffened, and he looked at Lin Hongye for confirmation.
“Did you really slay that Nascent Soul great demon?”
Lin Hongye nodded calmly, her expression unruffled.
Zhang Xianfeng gasped inwardly. A Golden Core practitioner slaying a Nascent Soul demon? What an extraordinary feat!
Unexpectedly, Lin Hongye respectfully looked toward Lin Yang and said,
“I owe thanks to Master’s excellent guidance; otherwise, I couldn’t have completed this mission.”
Lin Yang waved his hand and whispered, “No need to make a fuss.”
“Excellent guidance? Lin Yang?” Zhang Xianfeng looked at Lin Yang in astonishment, as did the others.
A third-stage Qi Refining cultivator instructing someone capable of slaying a Nascent Soul demon? And praised for excellent teaching?
Puzzled, Zhang Xianfeng pulled Lin Yang aside and quietly asked,
“Lin Yang, be honest, what kind of mind-altering potion did you give Lin Hongye?”
Lin Yang frowned, tugged at his clothes, and snapped, “What do you know? I conquered her through strength.”

With that, he waved to Lin Hongye.
“Come, disciple, back to the peak!”
Lin Yang strode confidently toward Chiyang Peak, with Lin Hongye respectfully following behind. Those watching were dumbfounded.
“This Lin Hongye… could she have some relationship with our Peak Master Lin besides being his disciple? Why else would she treat him with such reverence?”
“Who knows? Lin Yang is smooth-skinned and tender. Both surnamed Lin; maybe there’s some other connection.”
“And that child…”
Instantly, the disciples present entertained a certain possibility. Zhang Xianfeng frowned and said displeasedly,
“Enough, enough. Wild guesses like that are nonsense.”
“Instead of gossiping about others, you’d better focus on cultivation and raise your ranks. The sect competition is coming soon; none of you should be idle.”
After rebuking the disciples, Zhang Xianfeng returned to the hall to continue handling affairs.
...
The three returned to Chiyang Peak. Lin Yang looked at Lu Chen beside Lin Hongye, then after a moment finally spoke.
“Hongye, explain to me honestly, did you encounter that yellow-haired fellow outside?”
Lin Hongye was puzzled by Lin Yang’s meaning and asked in confusion,
“No, Master, why do you ask?”
“If you didn’t meet that yellow-haired guy, then how come after just a few days out you come back with a child?”
Seeing Lin Yang’s confusion, Lin Hongye explained,
“This child appeared after I slew the Nascent Soul great demon. He was trapped in a pit; when I asked him questions, he said he couldn’t remember much, only that he was a sword immortal from the upper realm.”
“I couldn’t just leave him stranded in the Misty Forest, so I brought him back to the sect.”
Lin Yang nodded. Lu Chen’s words were not lies. According to the system, this child really was a sword immortal from the upper realm.
But whether he truly lost his memory remained doubtful.
Thinking this, Lin Yang looked at Lu Chen, who was deep in thought, and asked,
“Ahem, young Lu, what are your plans going forward?”
“Young Lu?” Hearing this, a flash of displeasure crossed Lu Chen’s eyes.
As the Azure Dust Sword Immortal who had roamed the Immortal Realm for tens of thousands of years, who wouldn’t respectfully address him as Emperor Azure Dust?
Even if his cultivation was lost now, calling him by his full title was surely proper.
But he didn’t bother arguing with Lin Yang and snorted coldly before continuing:

“Cultivate.”
“A cold and aloof kid,” Lin Yang muttered after Lu Chen’s two-word reply, then continued,
“Well then, since you want to cultivate, why not become a disciple of my Chiyang Peak?”
Lin Yang had plans for Lu Chen, a disciple with the potential of a great emperor. After all, recruiting a disciple meant gaining a cultivator who would work for him again.
Although Lin Yang’s cultivation was lacking, an upper realm sword immortal was undoubtedly a master of swordsmanship.
Right now Lin Yang needed insight into swordsmanship; here was a perfect opportunity.
But Lu Chen shook his head without hesitation.
“Impossible. I, Lu, will never bow to anyone as my master.”
He chuckled scornfully. Lu Chen had roamed for ten thousand years, climbing from the cultivation world to the Immortal Realm, standing above thousands.
To bow to a mortal from the lower realm as master? Impossible.
Lin Hongye immediately spoke to persuade him,
“Young Lu, my master is very powerful. You won’t lose out by apprenticing under him.”
“Since you want to cultivate, there’s no better master in all Central Continent than my master.”
Lu Chen turned his head away and snorted coldly.
“Impossible. Even if I die, I’d rather jump off this Chiyang Peak than become a disciple of Lin Yang.”
Hearing this, Lin Hongye sighed.
Lin Yang was not surprised. A disciple of Lu Chen’s caliber, especially a reincarnated sword immortal from the upper realm, naturally had high standards.
But it didn’t matter; Lin Yang had his ways to make Lu Chen submit.
Lin Hongye handed the Chiyang Immortal Sword to Lin Yang. He pulled the sword out, and blood-red light instantly illuminated the surroundings.
Lu Chen’s gaze was drawn over, and he was momentarily stunned.
As a sword immortal, he had seen many fine swords.
But none of the divine swords or immortal swords he had used could compare to the one Lin Yang held—this was a true immortal sword.
Sensing Lu Chen’s gaze, Lin Yang knew he had the bait on the hook.
He cleared his throat and then said to Lin Hongye,
“Hongye, since you have no suitable weapon on hand, and this Chiyang Immortal Sword matches your Phoenix Immortal Body, I hereby gift this immortal sword to you.”
