Volume One, Chapter 14: Don’t Move, I Can’t Aim Properly
When I went to find Group Three, Team Leader Li was standing in the corridor outside the workshop, smoking with his head turned to the side. I approached him silently and fixed him with a cold stare. When he turned around, he recoiled as if startled by me. Then he adjusted his glasses, looking at me with a sly grin. “What’s up, handsome?”
Honestly, if I hadn’t promised Sister Yuzhu not to take action again, I would have slapped him right then.
“Team Leader Li, you know why I’m here,” I replied coldly.
He kept smiling, glanced inside the workshop, then headed straight for the stairwell in the corridor, going up. Naturally, I followed.
We climbed all the way to the rooftop. The rooftop was empty except for scattered cigarette butts and beer bottles. Team Leader Li took a deep drag on his cigarette, exhaled, then glared at me with a completely changed expression.
“Fool, I’m telling you! You won’t pass the assessment this time, and next time, don’t even think about it!”
“I will pass,” I said coldly.
He was momentarily stunned, furrowing his brows tightly. Then, as if struck by a sudden thought, he looked me up and down. “So, that girl didn’t pass, huh? Fool, are you trying to stick up for her?”
“Speak. What do you want to let Sister Yuzhu pass the assessment?”
Team Leader Li’s face lit up with a grin, and he flicked his cigarette butt onto the ground between us. “Give me… a kneel~”
I gritted my teeth and stared straight at him, itching to pounce and tear him apart. But remembering what my father said, and my promise to Sister Yuzhu not to make a move again, I finally closed my eyes and let out a long breath before kneeling down straight away.
If enduring for a moment could calm the storm, then I would endure.
The glowing cigarette butt instantly burned through my pants and seared the skin on my knee.
Then Team Leader Li burst out laughing...
“Fool! You kneeled just because I said? I never said I’d let that girl off if you knelt! Hahaha! Fool! Fool!”
My heart sank into despair.
Dad, Sister Yuzhu, can you see this?
It’s not that I don’t want to be patient or steady, but I already knelt before him, and yet he still refuses to let me go...
“Finished laughing?” I opened my eyes.
Team Leader Li was taken aback.
I grabbed both his legs and yanked hard, pulling him backward with lightning speed.
He lost his balance immediately, letting out a yell as he fell on his back.
I leapt up, straddled him, and began punching his face furiously.
“Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!”
I shattered his glasses and broke his teeth, pounding his face until it was covered in blood.
He roared behind his hands, “Chen Hui! You dare hit me? You’re finished! Prepare to pack up and get lost!”
I stopped.
He snorted coldly, “Know when to stop, huh? Too late! You miserable bastard!”
I stood up, grabbed a beer bottle from the rooftop.
“Chen Hui! What do you think you’re doing?” He panicked, trying to push himself up.
I stepped forward and kicked him down again, mounting him once more.
“Chen Hui, what are you doing? You’re crazy!” He raised his hands to shield his face.
I grabbed his arms, trapping them under my knees with a crushing grip, one arm pinned beneath each knee.
“Chen Hui! Stop! What do you want? Stop!” he shouted, twisting his head as much as he could.
“You made me kneel…”
I suddenly swung the beer bottle at the concrete floor beside us.
“Bang!”
The shattering glass cut my fingers immediately.
I didn’t care, lifting the jagged bottle, letting the blood drip down the shards, drop by drop, onto Team Leader Li’s forehead.
“Team Leader Li, don’t move, I can’t aim…”
I said, gripping the bottle with both hands and stabbed downward.
His eyes widened nearly to popping, tilting his head to dodge.
“Bang!”
The jagged glass stabbed into the concrete beside his face.
He gasped heavily, clearly too terrified to utter a word.
I pulled back the bottle, the shards all broken off.
I carefully snapped off a sharp piece with my fingers, ignoring the pain and cuts.
Once I had a pointy shard, I didn’t hesitate and plunged it toward his head again.
With the loud crash, he dodged once more, but his face was utterly terrified.
“I know I was wrong! Xiao Hui! Master Hui! I know I was wrong! Please spare me! Let me go!” He begged desperately.
“You don’t know you were wrong. You just know you’re about to die…” I said coldly, pulling back the bottle again.
His whole face trembled, and a foul stench rose from beneath him.
I slowly snapped off more shards from the bottle.
“Crack, crack, crack…”
For a long time, until Team Leader Li was so terrified he seemed to forget to breathe, nearly suffocating.
“Team Leader Li, remember, Sister Yuzhu must pass the assessment today.
Of course, you can also kick me out of the factory, but believe me, this factory’s three-meter-high walls... won’t stop me...”
I finished, deliberately lifting the knees pinning his arms, then loosened my grip on the bottle.
Immediately, the jagged bottle fell straight down onto Team Leader Li’s face.
He tilted his head frantically and pulled back his hands to catch the bottle.
His chest heaved violently, sweat pouring down his bloodied face.
I stood up and headed back to the stairwell.
But after only a few steps down from the rooftop, I froze.
Because I suddenly realized that my last words were so similar to something Old Hei said to me once at the skating rink...
Or rather, at that moment, when I spoke those words, I had already become like Old Hei—bullying the weak and intimidating the helpless...
It made me feel uneasy.
But what could I do?
This world is just like that...
If you kneel, you get bullied even more. Only if the other person kneels will they listen to you properly...
By the time I composed myself and returned to the workshop of Group Five, I immediately headed to the restroom, wanting to wash the blood off my hands before Sister Yuzhu saw me.
But the restroom door seemed stuck; no matter how I twisted, it wouldn’t open.
Not wanting Sister Yuzhu to catch me, I forced the door open with brute strength.
Inside, it was dim and gray. I turned on the faucet and quickly rinsed the blood from my hands.
“This won’t wash off just like that...”
Suddenly, a familiar voice came from beside me.
My heart skipped a beat. I turned to see Sister Jing squatting nearby in high heels, smoking a cigarette.
Water was running beneath her as well...
I immediately snapped back to reality and quickly averted my gaze. “Sister Jing, I... I didn’t know you were in here...”
“Rinsing won’t do it. Use soap and wash several times,” Sister Jing said calmly.
“But... there’s no soap...”
She didn’t respond. Instead, she stood up and grabbed the faucet handle, flushing the toilet.
“Wait here,” she said, then left the restroom.
When she returned, she held a bottle of what looked like machine-cleaning solution.
“Bear the pain,” she said, pouring the cleaner onto my bloodied hands.
It did hurt, but I didn’t make a sound and scrubbed the blood off in a few strokes.
Sister Jing looked me over with keen interest.
Then, noticing something else, she raised her brows.
“This support here... doesn’t it hurt?
What, have you got feelings for me?”
