Chapter Fourteen: The Magical Effect of Doubled Attack Speed
With eager anticipation for the roasted meat, Yeye closed the cabinet door inside and continued to hide herself.
Zohan rose to check on Selyade’s condition.
When his teacher had first taught him the course on “Blood Magic,” his interest had centered on more orthodox and conventional magical systems and knowledge—such as Blood Armament, Life Conversion, Vampire Magic Systems and Defensive Strategies, Blood Revolution, and Blood Manipulation.
He had mastered a few blood magic techniques, but not “Blood Slave Creation.”
As a normal person, particularly given his former profession, he had little interest in the method of creating blood slaves and only had a cursory understanding.
Now, faced with thorny issues related to blood slaves, he needed to consult more ancient texts and delve deeper into research.
He couldn’t even ask Yeye for advice, as her magic seemed to be an innate gift; she was unable to explain its techniques or rules to him.
Fortunately, she could inform Zohan of the next time Selyade would require a blood feed, allowing him to prepare in advance.
This would prevent the young lady of the Ordos family from suddenly losing control and wreaking havoc throughout the manor.
“Selyade, are you still conscious?” Zohan asked as he approached the bedside, though it sounded more like talking to himself.
Selyade gave no response.
Zohan pulled back the covers and, as on the first day, conducted a thorough examination.
There were no significant pathological changes, but he sensed that the magic power within her had grown stronger.
She had reached the level of a fifth-tier magical creature.
A fifth-tier creature was not particularly remarkable on Yelantis Island, but easily capable of sweeping through small towns like Red Hazel Town, which lacked defensive capabilities.
Once fully matured, would she become sixth-tier, or even seventh-tier?
Considering Yeye’s belief that Selyade possessed the power to resurrect her mother, her final rank would undoubtedly be high.
Zohan pressed on Selyade’s snow-white abdomen; the mandrake root tendrils he had used as sutures had already been absorbed, leaving no trace of the previous incision.
This was clearly not due to Zohan’s surgical prowess, but rather the vampire-type creature’s extraordinary healing abilities.
Yeye was unaware of this; otherwise, she would not have been so anxious to have Zohan “fix” her blood pig that day.
Zohan resolved to conduct another experiment.
He took out a notebook, its front page labeled “Blood Slave Research Log.”
The first few pages contained sketches of Selyade—full-body portraits and detailed close-ups of external organs.
Following were lines of writing squirming like earthworms, chronicling discoveries and reflections from his observations.
This script was the medical shorthand every doctor had to master, often derided as worm script, gibberish, or mystical text.
On the Roland Continent, it served as a natural encryption method. Another reason Zohan used it was that after learning the local language and script, he noticed his native tongue fading and blurring, so he had to use it regularly to maintain proficiency.
“Name: Selyade... Gender... Age... Date of record... Chief complaint: Patient experiences intermittent coma, developing bloodthirsty episodes upon awakening.
Present illness:
1. Onset conditions...”
Zohan reviewed the medical record he had written for Selyade, then closed the notebook, cleaned her body, and took a scalpel to make another incision on her abdomen.
“The patient does not bleed upon injury; abnormal flushing appears on the cheeks, slight movements of the eyebrows, lips curl up faintly, seemingly feeling no pain but rather some pleasure; bodily fluids also show some...”
Zohan recorded diligently, working intermittently on Selyade for over an hour before returning to his desk to document the day’s findings.
After finishing, he lifted the covers again and saw that the wound he had left was already showing signs of self-healing, and soon it would vanish without a trace.
“Truly remarkable. No wonder even the teacher considers vampires one of the most dreaded magical creatures,” Zohan mused, gaining newfound insight.
His time on Yelantis Island had been mostly theoretical; to gain real experience and practical knowledge, he would need to travel more extensively.
His current concern was whether Selyade’s surgical response might be a psychological disorder.
Could someone actually enjoy being operated on?
A common example was cosmetic surgery addiction.
Zohan had also encountered “hospital addiction,” where individuals go to great lengths to be hospitalized.
To achieve this, they might self-harm—swallowing foreign objects, injecting feces into their knee joints, taking anticoagulants, or even embedding nails into their bodies.
Such individuals often possessed astonishing pain tolerance and even derived satisfaction from injury examinations and surgeries.
Selyade... unfortunately, he could not communicate with her.
After tidying up, Zohan left Selyade’s bedroom and went to the kitchen to fetch a piece of roasted meat to bring to Yeye.
Throughout the Ordos Manor, witnessing this scene uplifted spirits.
They believed the young lady had finally found a new diet beyond human blood, a sign that Zohan’s treatment was effective.
With Zohan’s help, Lady Ordos had hidden her husband’s corpse and then summoned several of his trusted aides, ordering them to undertake a secret mission to Yubeng City.
The travel expenses she provided were generous, and since she usually managed many matters, the aides did not think twice and quietly left the manor as instructed.
Lady Ordos told the rest of the household that her husband had gone out on business with a few trusted men.
The lord’s cruel and violent temper meant that his absence signaled no one would be beaten or lose their lives without cause, which brought some relief and suspicion did not arise.
Lady Ordos now devoted all her attention to Zohan.
Her daughter’s illness was one reason; another was relying on him to truly handle the aftermath, not merely conceal the manor’s upheaval temporarily.
“Mr. Zohan, where are you headed?” The beautiful and captivating Lady Ordos encountered Zohan at the manor’s gate.
She had actually followed him after leaving Selyade’s bedroom.
“The river clams you brought me fit the experimental requirements well, but I have higher expectations for magical effects. I’m planning to select some personally,” Zohan replied, meaning to stroll through the town.
“Then I shall accompany you,” Lady Ordos said with a smile in her eyes.
Though widowed, she still dressed flamboyantly.
She even wore more daring lingerie, prepared for any accidental exposure to create a more dazzling allure before the young mage.
She had also slipped on black-soled red high heels.
The serialized novel Noble Code mentioned that such heels possessed magical enhancements like Boundless Mana and Doubled Attack Speed—though whether that was true remained unknown.
