Chapter 136 You Really Are Something Else
Before the pursuing man could even set his stance, he was knocked dizzy by a single blow from her wooden stool.
Operating on the principle of a quick resolution so as not to delay her journey home, Gu Xiaoyao added an extra kick after seeing him knocked unconscious.
"Are you still going to fight?"
Seeing him unable even to crawl up, Gu Xiaoyao asked expressionlessly while holding the stool in her hand.
Against such a weakling, she figured that even if a hundred of them came, she could easily take them all down with just a stool.
"No, I won't fight anymore. Sob, I was just trying to touch a bit of flesh, what's the big deal? It's not like it's some precious treasure."
The man was in pain all over. He never expected to run into such a tough opponent; had he known, he wouldn't have been so stubborn.
"I'm leaving, I'm leaving, I won't fight anymore, I'm not taking this ox cart, I'll walk back."
Seeing him stagger away in tears, Gu Xiaoyao picked up her stool and got back onto the ox cart.
The other people on the ox cart watched Gu Xiaoyao effortlessly defeat the man with just a stool, and they felt genuine admiration in their hearts.
"Thank you so much. You were really amazing just now."
The young woman who had been harassed blushed, looking at Gu Xiaoyao with starry-eyed admiration. How she wished she could be just as formidable.
"No need to thank me, I just happened to be in a position to help."
It was just a flick of her wrist, so Gu Xiaoyao certainly didn't think she had done anything monumental.
However, the young woman did not see it that way. Had Gu Xiaoyao not intervened, she probably would have had to endure that kind of molestation on the ox cart the whole way.
"My name is Honggu, what's yours? Is your home nearby? My house is along this exact same road too!"
Because Gu Xiaoyao had saved her, Honggu felt a strong sense of dependency toward her now, feeling that sitting next to her offered a special sense of security.
"I live in Lotus Village, deep in the mountains quite far away. You should be more careful when you go out in the future, and it's best to travel with people from your own village."
Looking at Honggu's pretty face, Gu Xiaoyao figured that without anyone to protect her, she would likely run into such trouble frequently.
Honggu smiled. She rarely went out anyway, and this time was only because her brother had been too busy to accompany her.
"I know. Normally I always go out with my older brother, but today he had things to take care of in town, so I came out by myself."
For the remainder of the journey, Honggu racked her brains to keep chatting with Gu Xiaoyao, and the two of them went back and forth, talking about quite a lot.
When they reached the place to get off the ox cart, Gu Xiaoyao tucked her stool and small basket neatly together, waved, and bid farewell to Honggu.
"Xiaoyao, come find me to play sometime!"
Honggu watched her retreating figure with a trace of reluctance, waving vigorously.
Gu Xiaoyao turned back and waved as well, then quickly darted into the mountains. Once inside, she was like a fish returning to water.
All the plants on the mountain seemed to open their arms in welcome of her return. Weaving through the small trails, Gu Xiaoyao soon arrived back at Lotus Village.
However, the moment she stepped through her courtyard gate, Gu Xiaoyao noticed something unusual: someone was sneaking food in her kitchen.
"Who's in the kitchen?!"
The thought of someone stealing her food made Gu Xiaoyao's gaze sharpen instantly as she gripped her wooden stick.
"Don't, don't hit me, it's just me..."
Mrs. Liu, who was squatting in the corner eating, never expected her to return so early, especially since she had been extremely careful.
Gu Xiaoyao looked at Mrs. Liu's grease-stained mouth, then glanced at the provisions stored in the kitchen. Goodness, she had even deliberately picked out the meat to eat!
"Since you've eaten my food, you'll have to work for it. Are you ready?"
She had known all along that Mrs. Liu wouldn't be able to restrain herself. How could someone gluttonous and lazy ever willingly find work for herself? You always had to create tasks for her to do.
