Chapter One: Sharing a Wife

In the dead of night, a rustling sound echoed from the base of the window where it met the wall. Gu Xiaoyao lay on a bed as hard as stone, listening intently. She couldn't comprehend how, though she had been in the apocalypse mere moments before, she had suddenly arrived in this place. Her body would not move, and the room, shrouded in darkness, revealed nothing to her eyes.
“Sister-in-law...”
A slippery male voice drifted in from outside the window, leaking cold wind into the room, the tone so greasy it made the heart uneasy. When the man outside received no response, he grew anxious, pried open the window, and poked his head inside.
Gu Xiaoyao watched as the man struggled to squeeze in from the outside. She moved her fingers, her face utterly indifferent.
The man planted one foot on the floor, chuckling slyly as he rubbed his frozen hands, finding this furtive errand more difficult than he’d expected.
“What are you doing here?”
Gu Xiaoyao’s tone was calm as she posed her question. Since arriving here, she had absorbed all the memories of this body, and she was well aware of its unfulfilled wish.
“Sister-in-law, Mother sent me. Big Brother is still away, and you’ve just married in, so you might not be familiar with our home yet. Mother was worried you’d be afraid, so she asked me to keep you company.”
Chu Qingsong’s voice feigned concern, but the filthy thoughts in his heart were as obvious as cockroaches crawling in the corner.

Watching him inch closer, Gu Xiaoyao felt no panic. Even in her current weakened state, she could easily subdue a grown man.
“If you dare come any closer, don’t blame me for what happens.”
Her warning, spoken with little force, fell flat, and the man paid it no heed.
“Sister-in-law, don’t worry. Once I spend a night with you, you won’t resist so much anymore.”
Chu Qingsong hurried over, his face twisted with lechery as he reached out to embrace Gu Xiaoyao.
Still lying on the bed, a chill flashed in Gu Xiaoyao’s eyes as she caught his wrist with one hand.
“Since you are so determined to keep me company, I must not disappoint you. However, this room is cramped; outside, there’s far more space.”
Such refined words slipped from Gu Xiaoyao’s lips without the slightest awkwardness.
Hearing this, Chu Qingsong was overjoyed, convinced that Gu Xiaoyao had finally come around and would no longer resist him.
“Heh, sister-in-law, you’re so understanding. But it’s cold outside—better we stay in here together.”
No sooner had he spoken than Gu Xiaoyao tightened her grip, dousing his heated intentions as if with a bucket of ice water, leaving him in excruciating pain.
“No need. I truly think you’re better suited to being outside.”

As the man howled like a slaughtered pig, Gu Xiaoyao twisted his wrist inward, forcing him to kneel on the freezing floor.
“Sister-in-law, let go, let go, it hurts, it hurts…”
Chu Qingsong howled in agony, his soul nearly leaving his body. His lips quivered as he struggled to break free, but Gu Xiaoyao’s grip was like an iron vise.
In the next room, Chu Qingbai, hearing the pained cries, tossed and turned restlessly, spreading his legs wide to pin down his blanket and silently cursing his second brother’s lack of decency.
“Playing this rough?!”
Unable to sleep, Chu Qingbai muttered, grabbing two wads of black, grimy cotton and stuffing them into his ears.
Meanwhile, the brother he envied, Chu Qingsong, was in so much pain his face was contorted beyond recognition. Never had he imagined that the frail-looking Gu Xiaoyao could possess such strength.
Seeing the man kneeling quietly on the ground, Gu Xiaoyao exhaled a long, heavy breath and stood up in one decisive motion.
