Outlaw Chen San: The Sequel
"Boss, the check please!"
As a young man waved his hand and called out to the stall owner, all those around—whether in the midst of their midnight snack or just arriving—turned their heads in perfect unison to look at him, as if they had rehearsed it.
This young man was Chen Sheng.
He was already quite accustomed to such scenes, for ever since he had entered this town, everyone who laid eyes on him would behave this way.
It was rather strange, as if his attractiveness knew no bounds, enchanting both men and women alike.
Regardless of age or gender, as soon as anyone saw him, their gaze would wander in his direction, and any movement he made would draw their undivided attention. Some, bolder than others, simply stared openly.
Chen Sheng found this utterly baffling.
After all, in the real world, he had always been an upstanding citizen, a model member of society from childhood to adulthood. He had no experience with being wanted or hunted.
Besides, he had no idea yet that he was already a wanted man.
Now, Chen Sheng wiped his mouth, his eyes full of disbelief. He knew well enough that, in this healing game, the sensation of eating was remarkably real. But whether the food would taste delicious, he was less certain—after all, his only prior meal had been a cup of instant noodles in a suspicious, deserted hotel.
This was his first time sampling food from a street stall in the game.
Savoring the lingering flavors of spicy, fragrant grilled meat, and recalling the explosion of juices as his teeth tore into it, Chen Sheng felt as if he were dreaming.
This was the legendary gourmet experience!
In the past, he could only see such things in movies or read about them in novels.
"But I can understand the visuals being so realistic—after all, I'm wearing those high-tech glasses back in the real world. But how do they simulate taste?"
He couldn't quite grasp it, but soon resigned himself.
"I'm just an ordinary nobody, barely scraping by in society, with nothing to my name but a job and a vote. How could I possibly understand this kind of black technology?"
That pair of gold-rimmed glasses was never meant for someone like him!
He hadn't forgotten a single word that little girl Yu Youxin had said; she had gone through great lengths to get the purchase code for those high-tech glasses.
Then, Chen Sheng pulled a ten-knife note from his pocket and handed it to the stall owner. Unable to resist, he asked, "Boss, is there any secret to your grilled meat?"
He figured, since the game could offer him such an experience, perhaps the recipe for the grilled meat was hidden here as well.
Though it was a long shot, there was no harm in asking.
The stall owner was a burly man, but as he looked at the frail Chen Sheng, his eyes betrayed a hint of fear.
After all, according to the news, this man before him had brazenly stolen one hundred thousand knife coins and a vehicle worth three hundred thousand, right under the noses of over a hundred police officers.
Such audacity was enough to chill the blood.
No matter how high the bounty, few would dare set their sights on such a notorious criminal. And this criminal strutted about as if the wanted posters meant nothing to him!
So the stall owner answered honestly, "There's no special secret. The seasoning is like everyone else's, but I use fresh beef, cut it into cubes, and soak it in clean water to draw out the blood."
Chen Sheng was speechless.
He had expected something like three minutes on low heat, three minutes on high heat, but apparently, as long as the ingredients were fresh, that was enough.
But in the real world, meeting such a standard wasn't easy!
"Here you are, this is two knife coins in change," said the stall owner. The purchasing power of knife coins here was still quite strong—eight would suffice for a barbecue supper.
Chen Sheng took the change and turned toward the battered off-roader.
The headless girl was still inside.
As soon as Chen Sheng got in, she visibly relaxed.
Before he left to eat, he had told her to watch the car, but looking at the state of the vehicle, she had been afraid it would fall apart at any moment.
Now that he was back, even if it did fall apart, it was none of her concern!
"Which way do we go next?" Chen Sheng asked as he started the engine.
They had not yet reached Gold Town, a place with such rich gold mines that no living person ever returned.
After smashing through the police blockade, he had shaken off pursuit with some difficulty and, seeing the lights of a nearby town, had stopped to refuel and grab a bite.
"Is it far? Do we have enough gas?" he asked, pointing at the fuel gauge.
The headless girl simply shook her head.
She didn't know, nor could she read the gauge.
Here, even a three-hundred-thousand knife coin off-roader, let alone a bicycle, was hardly a common sight.
Chen Sheng had only asked out of habit. Then, without further ado, he floored the accelerator.
Having outrun the police in a high-speed chase, he now felt as though he had broken the last shackles in his heart, becoming ever more reckless in this so-called healing game world.
The roar of the engine echoed through the night!
But then, something unexpected happened. The car couldn't withstand the abuse and broke down not long after, stranding them on the roadside.
Seeing thick black smoke billow from under the hood, Chen Sheng could only get out.
"The car's broken. What should we do?" The headless girl looked at Chen Sheng in confusion.
"We'll just run. Can you manage?" Chen Sheng said indifferently. At his full speed, he could outrun the off-roader.
"I can too," the headless girl quickly replied.
So, the man and the ghost began to run. Though the headless girl was only considered "ill-fated" class by human standards, she possessed all the basic abilities of a spirit.
She merged with the wind, using its force to race ahead.
Yet, seeing Chen Sheng running even faster than herself, she was astonished and called out, "Wait! Wait for me!"
He was running so fast she could barely see him.
Chen Sheng stopped and waited for her to catch up, then looked at her curiously. "Why are you so slow?"
The headless girl felt wronged—most ghosts ran at her speed! But she dared not complain, so she whispered, "The martial art you practice, the Unity Realm, is just too fast for me to keep up."
"Unity Realm martial art? What's that?" The unfamiliar term made Chen Sheng ask instinctively.
"You mean you've never practiced it?" The headless girl was dumbfounded.
"Mhm," Chen Sheng replied, but suddenly thought of his own odd training method. What would happen if he tried practicing it in this game world?
