133. The Ubiquitous Immortal Body
Those delicate vermilion lips parted slightly, as if she had something to say, but in the end, she hesitated, keeping her small face stoic as she gave a nod.
"As long as you're happy, Old Chen!"
Initially, she had deliberately sent Chen Sheng into that eerie world, hoping only to accelerate the speed at which he could engrave the stone tablets, so that he might help her return to the realm of the living. In this world, unless one remained within that supernatural space she had named "Pandemonium," one could never progress beyond the first level. It was a limitation imposed by the world itself.
Once she had sent Chen Sheng there, his incomplete first level of stone-tablet engraving had indeed been filled in, almost imperceptibly, before long. But what followed was beyond her wildest expectations. It was her first time witnessing such a bizarre way to practice a skill—and it wasn't just any "martial art." Mastering the third level offered the potential to ascend to the heavens in a single bound and achieve immortality. Though, admittedly, that relied heavily on luck; it was about as likely as winning the top prize in a lottery without being related to the director of the lottery bureau.
Collecting her scattered thoughts, Yu Youxin decided she didn't know what to say. Since that was how Chen Sheng perceived things, she would let him continue to believe it. Perhaps when he eventually became the Chief of the Police Department and realized he hadn't obtained the "Special Exorcist Sheriff Profession" he kept talking about, he would suddenly wake up to the fact that he had been overthinking everything.
Muttering to herself, the young girl replied, "Ah, yes, yes, yes, yes..."
"I'm not drunk," Chen Sheng said, staring at her with an expressionless face.
"Ah, yes, yes, yes, yes..." the young girl continued.
"I also want to beat you up." Chen Sheng remained stoic, but his gaze grew increasingly dangerous. She shouldn't assume he couldn't tell she was just humoring him.
The young girl: ╭(╯^╰)╮
Then, she turned and ran.
Chen Sheng thought about it and decided to give chase. He intended to put his earlier thought into action; after all, since it was just a "game world," he figured this little girl wouldn't actually be angry if he gave her a light thrashing.
However, before he had run two steps, a wave of vertigo washed over him, and his vision grew blurry. When the sensation faded and his sight cleared, Chen Sheng realized he had "exited the game."
He looked around and saw the young girl standing right in front of him, her small, delicate face set with a look of extreme seriousness. Suddenly, she balled her small hand into a fist and, with a vocalized "pow-pow" from her tiny mouth, punched him.
Chen Sheng felt absolutely nothing.
Ever since his body underwent its second transformation, allowing him to liquefy like a grand villain from a martial arts drama, his physical durability had improved once more. Though he hadn't tested it, Chen Sheng felt he could easily withstand a beating from several people. If an opponent were to use a blade to sever his hand or foot... he could simply liquefy and reattach them with ease.
It was as if he possessed one of those clichéd, immortal bodies from a fantasy novel!
Chen Sheng remained unfazed, while the young girl, having thrown her punch, tilted her chin up and walked away with a look of immense triumph, like a victorious general.
Chen Sheng cast an expressionless glance at her. One word popped into his mind: childish.
He took a deep breath and stretched his arms. Since he had "exited the game," he was finished for now. As they say, his vacation was long; there was no need to spend every waking moment playing. Even though this "healing game" was indeed quite fun, playing too much could subtly influence a person, and Chen Sheng felt his own mindset had begun to shift slightly.
This was to be expected, however. After all, his extraordinary physique was still in the process of perfecting itself. He sensed that in time, once his power became sufficiently great, he might actually end up doing the very things he had done in that healing game. The saying that "the scholar uses literature to violate the law, while the warrior uses force to break the prohibitions" was no empty talk. Once a person possessed overwhelming power, it truly could alter their mentality.
Chen Sheng felt he was merely in the budding stage of this process.
"Even so, if that day ever truly comes, I suppose I will be even more indifferent to worldly desires... As long as no one provokes me, I can continue to remain an invisible bystander."
As he thought this, a strange, intuitive sensation washed over him, as if it were confirming something. Chen Sheng believed this to be true, a judgment based on his understanding of the strange cultivation method he practiced.
"By then, I should be in a state of total detachment—unmoved by external gains or personal losses..."
The moment this thought crossed his mind, he felt an inexplicable panic, as if he were afraid of his future self.
"What a strange feeling..."
Chen Sheng couldn't help but murmur to himself, a trace of dread flickering in the depths of his eyes—much like when he had first suspected he was seeing ghosts. He began to ponder it, but his thoughts were chaotic and jumbled, his mind feeling like mush.
"It’s a pity I have no one to talk to about this, otherwise..."
Chen Sheng couldn't help but sigh. But just as he was lamenting, he paused, his expression turning peculiar.
"It seems that’s not entirely true..."
Chen Sheng turned his gaze toward the sofa, where his laptop lay abandoned. He wondered what the little girl had been digging into while she was buried under the blankets earlier.
"I could adapt this experience into a story and post it. Whether anyone believes it is unimportant; what matters is that someone might offer some perspective..."
With that, Chen Sheng hastily opened his laptop.
As he opened his usual word processor, he saw a line of text already there: *That day, I, Anna Jones Elizabeth Andrew, was born as the Daughter of the World...*
And then, there was nothing else.
He hadn't written that. Nor could it be some supernatural phenomenon.
So...
"Is this what that 'I could do it too' person wrote? With such an intense Mary Sue style, how does this young lady have the nerve to provide such a summary?"
Chen Sheng wore a strange expression. After a moment, he decided not to delete it, saving it for this "I could do it too" person before opening a new document. Given his personal experience, writing it up wasn't difficult. He simply approached it with the methodical structure of an academic paper.
Once finished, he followed the submission guidelines for the website and posted it. Then, he put the matter out of his mind. After all, he was only experimenting.
"Old Chen, what are you doing?" the young girl suddenly popped up again.
"Watching you write for so long made me want to write something too..." Chen Sheng replied casually.
